Atom to gonbes gbs8200

Postby trixster » Sun Mar 26, 2017 9:31 pm

Hi,

I'm about to collect an Atom (hoorah!) and I'd like to connect it to my gbs8200. I'm assuming I'll have to make up a cable, so what would be the pinout to get it working?

Thanks!

It doesn't do composite unfortunately :( - but if you have an colour card in outputting RGB you can use it?

I won't know what it has until I collect it tomorrow! Fingers crossed it'll be full of nice stuff (although I seriously doubt it).

But if it doesn't have a colour card I guess I'll have to get hold of one as in my loft where the Atom will live I will only be able to connect it through the gbs8200 or through composite.

I have a couple of those cheaply composite / svideo to VGA adapters - they're terrible! I used them as a stop-gap until I got a monitor which has svideo and composite in (the dell 2001fp) and an svideo out mod for my cpc6128.

It'll be mono out of the atom, so won't look too bad (it looks pretty bad normally!), but if you have a monitor that takes composite then you'll be fine.

Andy,

When I first joint stardot I got rather obsessed with Atom colour boards.

One of the designs is very simple: it uses a couple of transistors to create a YPrPb signal from PL4 than can be fed into a GB8200.

Details here:

This is the simplest way I know of to get a colour output from an Atom.

Thanks for the link Dave, very interesting!

I'll take the Atom apart this afternoon and have a look inside. Who knows, it might have a colour board already fitted. If not i'll investigate getting hold of a new one as I guess this is the way to go.
