Is there still any interest for Atom2k15 boards

Postby roland » Sat Jun 10, 2017 9:16 pm

Today at the TechSat I met somebody who also wants an Atom2k15 board. Are here other people interested in a board? As soon as I can order three boards they are quite affordable. I'm willing to order one board for myself as a spare. But beware! You'll need to buy a Godil yourself. For a small amount of boards I still can supply the necessary CPLD's (also end-of-life). If you're interested, just reply here.

They use the PLCC Xilinx XC95xxXL chips don't they? With a small amount of re-engineering they could be converted to use the same chips in TQFP which are still available. Though I did wonder about making an adapter board as thingls like the Atom RAMROM have the same problem.

Cheers.

I might be interested in one. Although, strictly speaking, at the moment, I have run out of retro money.

Oh dear ... I am not alone I see.
How much is it with shipping to France.
I should have some funds in about a week ...

I would _love_ a reliable Atom as one of mine is unusable and the other works for the 1st 5 minutes... It's the godil which is a stopper for me. I don't want to pay £75 for a video chip. I don't want new features, just the old ones that work :D Bring the fpga goodness on=board however and I think it's a goer.

I am thinking that if another run is done and can get a.n.other FPGA replacement for the GODIL and the price is not to bad then I could well be a +1

I re-read it. That is 3 interests if some one loans Lazarusr some money. So is that enough for the run Roland? I have no read all the building an a new Atom threads and loks pretty exciting. Although I guess less exciting now all the kinks are fixed :)

have the issue with the GODIL availability, is it posibly to tweak the board layout for whatever solution comes out of the ICE T thread?

I still think that it is possible to build a small pcb with an 8KB static ram and a 6847 that can be plugged in into the Godil socket. The video output can be routed into the VGA connector but you need of course a composite monitor. This setup gives a very basic Atom video, with snow and no colour. It is also possible to make a bit more advanced pcb that eliminates the snow and even adds colour.

The Atom board still has the three video buffers but they are not controlled (i.e. the enable inputs are tied to gnd). So that might need a very small mod on the board. But still, then you have an Atom with 128KB RAM and an AtoMMC.

What is the most simple colour board with RGB output and a reasonable quality?

If someone does not have the money at the moment, I don't mind. The delivery time is about six to eight weeks after ordering. And even then I don't mind if I have to wait a few months. I'm happy if they are sold and paid before Christmas. So ... anyone looking for a nice Christmas present :?:

This colour circuit is worth giving a try. Maybe the 74LS123 is not needed. It will give colour output but still with noise.

Interesting use of a serial port level shifter 8)

IIRC hoglets design was simular to the Nintendo design: download/file.php?id=5271

Thanks Kees,

I didn't notice that this design was already on StarDot. If I have a look at the PCB it is quite large for a "plug-in" board, especially if I have to add a 6847, 6264, 74LS04 and some other stuff. Perhaps with 1/8 W resistors it is possible; I don't really like working with SMD components.

I'd be interested if the GODIL has been replaced and it uses a BBC keyboard so I dont have to chop my Issue 4 in bits :D

As noted in another thread, the bare module GODIL seems to be back in stock:
https://shop.trenz-electronic.de/en/TE0 ... are-module

This is €49.00 + VAT + shipping and is actually the larger GODIL. Currently showing 30 in stock.

It would need the various headers soldering on, such as this one: Preci-Dip 150-10-640-00-106161.

That could solve the Godil problem. But where to get the XC9536XL and XC9572XL CPLD's? The 44pin PLCC are not available any more except from Ebay ... but are these reliable?

You could of course re-engineer (I'm assuming you still have the design files which IIRC where for kicad) the boards for the TQFP versions which are also 44pin, and not too hard to solder (several of my boards use them) and are still available from digikey.

Cheers.
