Beeb cardboard boxes

Postby RobC » Wed May 03, 2017 1:59 pm

When I got my BBC model B BITD it came in a fairly nondescript brown cardboard box.

I've also seen another type of box which has a picture of the Beeb on it (the same type that features on the brochures that came with the Beeb) and says "BBC Microcomputer System". I always associated this style of box with the B+ but, looking at eBay, it seems that it was also used for the model B.

Out of curiosity, oes anyone know when Acorn switched from using plain brown boxes to the fancier type? Or did they use them concurrently?

Thanks,

Rob

And better yet, does anybody replicate them?

I think brown cardboard boxes were for mail order beebs and the white picture - box was for retail beebs.

Okay - so they were concurrent then?

My brown boxed Beeb came from Dixons but I guess they might have just been flogging whatever they could get their hands on!

Hmmm...
I worked in a computer shop at the time and *maybe* the plain ones came when we ordered in bulk for shop stock too?
Definitely concurrent though.

It doesn't matter at the time.

So many items of 'junk' I wish I had kept by now.

Today I received a boxed issue 7 BBC B manufactured late 1984 / early 1985. It is in a white box marked "Fragile" :D
