Emerald Isle (Level 9)

Postby davidk » Sun Mar 03, 2002 12:38 pm

More Level9 woes :-)

Can anyone get the disk image of Level 9's Emerald Isle from here to run? It comes up with a loading screen which says "Press ESCAPE to continue". However, when escape is pressed it just sits there accessing the disk drive forever.

This happens on BeebEm 1.4 and 1.02, and also B-Em.
Re: Emerald Isle (Level 9) fix?

I have had a look at this problem using Watford DFS 1.30 and 1.44. From what I understand, the DIR and LIB are changed from the standard $.

I have done a quick fudged fix as follows

PAGE=&6000
LOAD"ISLE"
DELETE 90,206 (Instructions)
221 *DIR $
222 *LIB $
*SAVE ISLE 6000+CFF 6000

When the disc image is next booted, the new ISLE will be CHAINed and the game should run (tested on BEEBem BBC Model B, Watford DFS 1.44)
The instructions are deleted as ISLE isn't just a BASIC file, and if the BASIC code goes for too long, the assembler will be overwritten.
If run in BBC Master mode, loads games but then Error 36C

Like I said, it is a fudged fix, but in the short term works.

One thing I think I've neglected to mention anywhere on the site is that all games have ONLY been tested with Acorn DFS v0.9 (incidentally, Emerald Isle works fine using the Acorn rom).

Thanks for the fix, I'll look at incorporating it into the current archive.
