Hi,

You need to download an emulator for the game you downloaded to work with (unless you have a proper BBC but I'm assuming not..). I've put some instructions for some of the various emulators available below and have assumed you're using Windows XP/2000.

Tom Walker's B-Em available from b-em.bbcmicro.com/
1) Download the B-Em for Windows zip file by clicking on the link at the top of the screen (don't download the DOS version)
2) Extract the files from the zip archive to a suitable directory e.g. B-Em.
3) Download a disk image from this site's software archive e.g. www.stairwaytohell.com/bb...ilter=.zip
4) Extract the disk image e.g. "Repton.ssd" to "-emdiscs"
5) Start B-Em by double clicking on B-Em.exe in the "-em" directory
6) Right click anyway in the screen to display the menu at the top of the screen
7) Select Disc->Load Drive 0/2
Navigate to "-emdiscimages" and select "Repton.ssd"
9) You'll be returned to the BBC boot basic prompt
10) Press the SHIFT key together with F12 to auto-boot the disk (note if this doesn't work, then autoboot is enabled on the disk image and you'll need to CHAIN "<PROGRAM NAME>" or *RUN <PROGRAM NAME>)
11) Play the game...

Tom Seddon's Model available from modelb.bbcmicro.com/download.html
1) Download the DirectX 8 verion zip file by clicking on the link at the halfway down the screen
2) Extract the files from the zip archive to a suitable directory e.g. modelb.
3) Download a disk image from this site's software archive e.g. www.stairwaytohell.com/bb...ilter=.zip
4) Extract the disk image e.g. "Repton.ssd" to "modelbgames"
5) Start modelb by double clicking on modelb.exe in the "modelb" directory
6) Select the File->Drive 0->Load... menu option
7) Navigate to "modelbgames" and select "Repton.ssd"
9) You'll be returned to the BBC boot basic prompt
10) Press the SHIFT key together with F11 to auto-boot the disk (note if this doesn't work, then autoboot is enabled on the disk image and you'll need to CHAIN "<PROGRAM NAME>" or *RUN <PROGRAM NAME>)
11) Play the game...

BeebEm available from www.mikebuk.dsl.pipex.com...index.html
1) Download the BeebEm 1.41 zip file by clicking on the link at the top of the screen
2) Extract the files from the zip archive to a suitable directory e.g. eebem
3) Download a disk image from this site's software archive e.g. www.stairwaytohell.com/bb...ilter=.zip
4) Extract the disk image e.g. "Repton.ssd" to "eebemdiscims"
5) Start beebem by double clicking on beebem.exe in the "eebem" directory
6) Select the File->Load Disc 0... menu option
7) Navigate to "eebemdiscims" and select "Repton.ssd"
9) You'll be returned to the BBC boot basic prompt
10) Press the SHIFT key together with F12 to auto-boot the disk (note if this doesn't work, then autoboot is enabled on the disk image and you'll need to CHAIN "<PROGRAM NAME>" or *RUN <PROGRAM NAME>)
11) Play the game...

There are a number of other emulators out there which I haven't documented here such as the JBeeb (java based, more complex set up as you have to install a Java Runtime Environment first) and PCBBC (10 minutes of play only unless you buy it). I think you're better off with the emulators above if you're a novice for the time being, as much as I rate JBeeb and PCBBC...

Hope this helps.
