Happy to design one :D - this is a very exciting add-on. M5000, BeebSid, BeebOPL, Datacentre, - the elk won't know what's hit it!

That's impressive! What's your secret for soldering the 0.5 mm pitch chips? I've been shoe horning my designs into the xc9572xl-vqg44 so I can avoid having to solder anything less than 0.8 mm pitch, but I'd love to be able to design in the higher pin count chips without fear of soldering failures! RIght now my reliability rate for soldering 0.5 mm pitch chips is about 50% (one destroyed board/chip with bent pins for every successful solder job) :P

I cannot do it personally but my work colleague can drag solder with a 100 percent success rate. This is with extended pads.

Add me to the list Dave :-) Though it will need to goto TC until he has his IDE Drive working with the Elk via the AP5 :-)

It just needs the Elk ADFS (1.0) patching with the IDE code as it's got all the winchester code in it already. Should be fairly straight forward.

Re: P.R.E.S. AP5 - Original and Re-Design

Postby daveejhitchins » Sat Apr 29, 2017 5:28 pm

I've got an idea for that :D There's an MMC mode - a bit like the method I used in the AP3/4 for ADFS E00. Now that worked by having all the Winchester bits taken out of ADFS, so it would fit in the reduced space taken up by overlaying the top of the ROM with RAM. Now I'm thinking: . . . the MMC mode does the same thing, BUT, that would still leave ADFS short of space! Maybe we have room in the CPLD to switch in a second bank of code - like my BASIC editor and CC's Interword. That would mean ADFS would have lots of room - attached SD card would act like a hard drive AND we would still have access to the floppy drives :D Well . . . .What do think?

Oh! - Here's the first AP5 partly built. I get the rest of the parts on Tuesday - Darn these Bank Holiday Mondays

Assuming the prototypes versions and testing all go well, then put down for a production one (probably two if I have spare cash) please. Already have an external DC waiting for an AP5.

Thanks.
