Dutch TechSat on 6th of June.

Postby roland » Sun Mar 15, 2015 3:11 pm

Hi All,

We are pleased to announce another TechSat meeting in the Netherlands. This time it's located near the holy attic of Multiwizard (not at his holy attic).

We have planned this meeting on Saturday June 6th from 11:00 - 17:00 in Vaassen; the address is

Triton
Jasmijnstraat 36
8171AP Vaassen

The entrance is free but we ask a contribution of € 5.00 per person for coffee and lunch. After the meeting we are having diner at a restaurant in the neighbourhood. This diner is not included in this contribution

We hope to meet some (Dutch) member from this forum.

See you on TechSat!
Greetings,
Multiwizard and Roland

Hi all,

I haven't been very active here for a couple of years, but I do live in the Netherlands. What is a TechSat meeting. Google's not my best friend on this...

Hi Evert,

are you a former Acorn Atom Club user?

You can find some photo's from the previous two TechSats here:

Hi Kees,

No, I am a former (and current) BBC B owner. Former member of the Big Ben Club, too. Is this an Atom event or more of an Acorn event?

I vaguely recall a Kees from the Big Ben Club or a related association...

Hi Evert,

I visited the Big Ben club a few times in Elst and once had a demo at the RUM (Risc Users Meeting) together with Roland Leurs: http://home.online.nl/riscosuser/home2000/nl/2donl.html

There are mainly Acorn Atoms at the TechSat meeting.

Greetings
Kees

It's a technical meeting on a Saturday. Although the first techsat was on a Friday evening at my place. After that the event grew bigger so we moved somewhere to Wijbosch and this time we go to Vaassen.

The techsat is mainly an Atom event but other forum members are also welcome.

@Multiwizard: how many people can we get into that building and did you already receive the final confirmation of the reservation?

Hi Roland,

Unfortunately due to personal (family) circumstances I cant make it at such a short notice. I would like to be there next year though hopefully with my finished "Roland Atom MKII".

Kind regards, Bram

There are no objections to do some trading of personal systems. I mean, no companies etc.

Thanks Wim for the great pictures, glad you all had fun!

What's the score with the green Atom? Is it an original case that's been painted? Or a 3D-printed replica case?

Hi all,

Thanks for posting the pictures Wim - looks like a fun time was had by all.

It would be great to hear about some of the projects people were talking about and working on. I'm sure there was more going on than Atom fixing.

Ah, the green Atom.

From what I hear it is a model that was only available in the Netherlands, and is now incredibly rare. This is the only example that is known to exist currently. In fact, I don't think that many were ever actually made. I would expect you would have to offer Roland at least a four-figure sum to part with this......

Seriously, take a look at this thread:

Please don't tell anybody that I'm working on a new Atom: the Acorn Atom Blue :-$

On the TechSat I receive this poor Atom, of course it has been reported to the local RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Atoms).

I didn't know in what topic to post this: Today I received, Desoldering gun or just give it it's own topic....

First of all I'm going to start with checking the keys. If they all still work then I think what's going to happen with this board....

Hi guys,

just a small write up of the Techsat meeting last yesterday.

It was not very crowded but definitely worth the trip. Wim, Theo, Leendert, Louis, Roland and myself were attending the meeting. Wim brought along a lot of broken Atoms from his collection and we were able to repair 2 out of 3. Roland took the last one home to perform a thorough inspection at home to also bring this Atom back to life.

Theo had his CP/M rack system including digitiser with him and copied a few CP/M startup disks for Wim for testing on his CP/M system. Theo tested Wims digitiser and CP/M board and they were working fine so now it's up to Wim to get them working on his system.

Leendert is a former Atom User Group member who did a lot of interesting projects in the past like: A lot of articles in Atom News, Assembler course, Floating point calculations for the Atom-in-PC board and Windows version of Roland Atom-in-PC terminal program. Leendert recently purchased an Atom new style from Roland, build it and has got it working now. He is still investigating the possibilities of this Atom and who knows what projects will be started if he knows how the new Atom functions......

Louis is also a former Atom User Group member who did some soft- and hardware projects in the past. He entertaint us with a lot of retro stories about computers and how he made acquaintance with the Atom. Interesting stories....

Roland showed his green Atom new style. There are rumours that he is working on a blue version ........ ;) He also showed his 6809 Flex system and it's almost fully working. It is possible to execute some simple programs but it still needs some fine tuning to get eg. Basic working. Roland and I did some reanimation on Wim's broken Atoms and we got 2 Atoms working. One had a defect OSROM and the other one a defect transistor in the video circuit. Roland is working with Wim on a project to get GDOS working on the Atom new style.
Roland also received an Atom which was a burning success as you can see in a previous post ....

I did show some unfinished software projects like Manic Miner, Downfall, Elite, UPURS and a Turbo-Outrun sound conversion. Hmmmm ... I do realise that these are a lot of unfinished projects so maybe I have to start a project to finish some unfinished projects ... Another project I worked on that day was trying to get Jim Bagley's video player working on a real Atom with (partial) success ..... I can get it started but there are still a few strange things happening which I have to investigate because the program is not stable yet.

It was great to talk to some former Atom Group members.
Thanks to Wim and Roland for organizing this meeting.

Greetings
Kees
