Dutch Atomic Techsat on June 18th 2016

Postby oss003 » Thu Apr 14, 2016 6:59 pm

Hi all,

because of the success of the last Atomic meetings, I want to announce a new Atomic meeting on Saterday June 18th.
The main focus will be Atom hard- and software but other related hard- and software is also welcome.

The address is
Dorpscentrum De Schakel
Eerdsebaan 1
5482DA Wijbosch

We start about 10:00 and the meeting ends about 18:00u. The entrance is free but I'm asking a contribution of € 5.00 per person for coffee and lunch. Everybody is free to join for diner after the meeting at a restaurant in the neighbourhood. This diner is not included in the contribution

Please answer this topic or send me a PM if you are planning to come so that I know how many sandwiches have to be made ...:)

Confirmed:
- oss003 (Kees)
- Multiwizard (Wim)
- roland (Roland)
- GuidoB
- bprosman (Bram)
- leendert (Leendert)
- DutchAcorn (Paul)
- eric (Eric)
- Peter
- Hennie B
- Sjaak G
- janrinze (Jan Rinze)
- TheoDenW
- PeterH

Tentative:
- Fred Jan K
- GerritH

See you on the TechSat!

Greetings,
Kees

Hopefully you can make it because it's a nice opportunity to see an old-, a new- and a RPi Atom working ..... ;)

I have two monochrome CRT monitors and a CRT VGA monitor my wife would like me to part with. Any takers if I bring them along Saturday?

Hi,

is perhaps someone looking for a specific year or episode of the Atom Nieuws booklets?

I have several double copies... :D

Hi,

just a thought...

Would it be an idea that before a Techsat meeting takes place, if someone is looking for certain things he puts a little wish-list up at the Topic ? :?:

This list could contain hardware, software and/or documentation (only Acorn stuff), so other members are able then to give, trade or sell it at the meeting... :D

Any thoughts? :?:

still packing.. looking what I should bring.

got:
- 2015 Atom for testing together with Roland.
- a colour card for Wim
- bringing some DRAM boards
got some hardware which may be of interest to people. So I'll bring that along.

I have some atoms that are heavily modified.. Had not enough time yet to asses their state.

That was fun, thanks for organising this Kees!

It was very Atom-oriented. I brought my Master Turbo along and after explaining what it was it was referred to as "a sort of super Atom". Also I was asked if it had colour.

Good to see some faces behind the Avatars, and I was persuaded to get a logic analyser. :D

Hi guys,

it was great but you have to wait just a little while more to view the photo's because Wim took some photo's and will upload them as soon as he gets home. When the photo's are online, I'll add some comment to them.

Greetings
Kees

Look like everyone had a good tile, plus you didn't have to leave your Atoms to get a beer :) :) :)

Cheers.

Thanks! I'd like to know more of the ABM machine - some serious metalworking behind that?(*) But more pictures of machines with unique appearance would be great.

(*) Or perhaps, more efficiently and more obviously, it's a repurposed PET case??

Hi guys, time for a little write-up:

There were 14 attendees and most of them brought there Atom stuff with them.

Multiwizard (Wim) had a lot of hardware with him including the ABM Atom. He had a great talk with Theo because he wants his system to be comparable with Theo's system. The system consits of an Atom, Eprom programmer, CP/M-, RAM-, ROM-, 2nd VIA-, digitizer- and 80 column VDU board. Theo helped Wim to get his system setup right but it seems the system needs some hardware modifications to get running fine.

Roland also had some trendy Atoms with him in the colours white, green and blue. He and Jan Rinze did some testing to get an Atom running at warpspeed (14 MHz) which failed. IIRC they had it running at 8 MHz and came up with some ideas about how to improve the speed. He also demonstrated his serial/WiFi module connecting to the wireless network.

Leendert had his Atom2015 with him but he and Bram were most of the time talking to the other guys about ongoing projects and old times.

Eric had his Atom with him and wants to continue with FPGA programming which had been stopped for a while due to other things. He has some great projects planned but needs time to execute them but this sounds very general to all members I think ... :)

Jan Rinze demonstrated his 16-bits Atom and showed a lot of interesting software like a new emulator running in Linux, his from scratch written graphical demo of Elite and a new Basic editor program. He is also upgrading his Atom to run at 14 MHz.

Sjaak and Hennie and PeterH enjoyed talking to the guys about old and new developments on the Atom front. I think PeterH got infected with the Atom virus because he enjoyed the meeting very much and said that he wants to get his Atom up and running again after 20 years. Sorry Peter you got infected but the only cure is to restore an Atom and getting it running ..

Paul (DutchAcorn) brought his Atom and BBC Master (Super Atom 8) ) with him and demonstrated how the Matchbox co-pro worked with the Master. Paul and Peter also had some discussion about the BBC and Master. Guido also had a look at Paul's Atom with a Mk 5.1 Colourboard displaying an occassionally hickup. It is strange because when playing Cowboy, if there are no chariots on the screen everything is ok and as soon as a chariot is displayed, the screen starts bouncing?????

I wanted to get my DOS/MMC/Serial copy program running but for now it's only running in Atomulator and failed on a real Atom ..... this needs some further debugging or we have to modify the Atom to behave exactly the same as Atomulator ....
I also noticed that the Tube hangs when a Diskpack is connected to the Atom????

Look like everyone had a good tile, plus you didn't have to leave your Atoms to get a beer :) :) :)

Yes Phill, it's just a question of choosing the right venue for a meeting because it takes a lot of valueable time to get a beer somewhere else which rather can be spent talking about computers ........

Greetings
Kees
