Wakefield RISCOS show Sat. 16/4/2016

Postby sydney » Thu Feb 11, 2016 6:51 pm

Hi everyone.

Wakefield Acorn & RISCOS Computer Show - Saturday, 16th April 2016

The past few years we've gatecrashed this show and had some fantastic 8 bit action going on so I'm thinking this year should be no different.
DaveH, John (flaxcottage) and I have all agreed we'll be taking a table each so I thought I'd ask if anyone would like to share some of our table space (and the cost!) or have a table of thier own. I'll be taking a beeb and master as usual, Dave will have a load of retro hardware (maybe an AP6 on display!) as usual and John will have his educational archive and maybe his robot arm. Post here or pm me if you want some table space.

I'll keep a list of people who are going in this thread so let us know if you'll be there.

I have an A310 with Arthur that I could bring if that's of interest to anyone?

I haven't seen Arthur for real since the 80s!

I'll be there!

I'd like to see Arthur again, I didn't have my camera when he was dazzling the last Bolton show.

Just to point out, this event is actually 16th April, not 26th.

Mmm...this strikes me as being an inordinately long time to spend at a tram stop. Have you tried the buses? I reckon you might just possibly have got home by now.

It was quite a few minutes truth told. Should be somewhere with better communications tomorrow.

So, I've dropped the organisers an email and I'm waiting to hear back. Hopefully I shall have a series of things up and running during the day, based around the MDFS which is now up-and-running:

Cave, Arena II and MUGINS (not all at the same time). A working PANOS Econet installation running on the De0-Nano 32016 for Fortran Coding Delight, some other bits and bobs as they come to mind. Also will have some repair and disc imaging kit with me. And my big MDFS circuit diagram printout (thanks Scott!).

Of course, this is dependent on the organisers getting back in touch :D

Should be no problem. Chris is very efficient - he got back to me in 48 hours.

Looks like we'll have big Econet action there this year. Maybe all the 8-bit tables networked. :D

I've booked mine and Dave's tables so with John and Daniel there will be four 8 bit tables at the show this year. Anyone else wanting a table should get in touch with Chris at WROCC.

Toying with attending. If there's going to be any Retro Software presence this year then I might even have something to demonstrate.

I'm happy to devote one of my machines to whatever you want to demonstrate.

I shall only be around for the day. Does anyone else want anything else on this menu (the current selection is with Arcadian's blessing)? All Beebs/Masters on the show econet will have access to it:

If anyone is running a high score challenge, you are welcome to use my new frogger, or demo or whatever any of my stuff.

Thanks Tricky - is it still iterating or the version up there now pretty much final? (The only think it has to be able to do is load on a beeb with PAGE @ &1B00 in the first instance)

The one there is not final, but should be OK for a highscore competition. It loads a very small basic program and then *runs frogger, which loads at &2400, so it should be OK.

Most probably I'll be staying over in the hotel on the Friday night. I haven't enquired with the organisers but I'm happy to contribute to the cost of a table, especially if it is going to be partly used for repairing some of my corroded kit!

Hi - I've just requested a table :) I'll be coming down on the Friday evening and staying over at Cedar Court.

I'll bring my mostly working Master and BBC B, Cub monitor, dual Pace drive.. I'll run mine and Tricky's games (Tricky's will be on the BBC B :) ).. including my still Work-In-Progress Tequila Worm game. Currently it's little more than a tech demo. It's Master only, running in Mode 1 and uses shadow ram for a double buffered, hardware scrolled screen. By having the graphics in the shadow ram screen off set by 2 pixels, I get 2 pixel sideways scrolling @ 50fps which looks pretty smooth.

(if there are any hardware folk coming down who wouldn't mind taking a look at my Master with it's strange timing/video oddity, I'd be grateful. I'll order 6522s and 6845 from Retroclinic)
I'm going to ..

I haven't - but if there's a spare interface (I believe it is easy to fit in Master?) and cable available I'm up for joining the econet net! :)

I'll be there for the show as a visitor, not exhibiting anything. Got to have one show where I'm not doing anything and can just talk to people!

Although I may try to stick a few London Show posters up when no one's looking ;-)
