RISC OS South West Show / Sat 27th Feb 2016

Postby helpful » Wed Jan 27, 2016 3:36 pm

This year's RISC OS South West Show will be taking place on Saturday 27th February 2016.

http://www.riscos-swshow.co.uk/

Usual venue of the Webbington Hotel, near Weston-super-Mare, BS26 2HU, just 25miles south of Bristol, approximately 10mins drive from Junction 22 of the M5.
I'll be going along with my ROUGOL hat (well, a small badge!) on. Anyone else attending or maybe interested in setting up a StarDot corner for some hot Beeb action?

I'm planning on going and could bring some kit along.

Have you contacted Richard Brown (phone number on the show website) to ask for a table? I'm sure there will be free space, it is quite a large room.

Show is this Saturday!

To be honest, I don't want the responsibility of organising this myself as there's a small chance that I won't be able to make it.

However, if someone else wants to do something, I should be able to bring some kit (if required).

I've asked Richard and he says if anyone wants to turn up with some kit to show then they can make space available :-)

Hope to see a few of you there, do come over and say hello!

I wrote a bit about the show over on the ROOL forum:

There was a very distinctive smell in the hall at one stage as a Beeb let out the magic smoke!

Someone told me Beebmaster was there, but I didn't see him :-(

The magic smoke came out before Beebmaster arrived but I think he bought it anyway so at least it's now in good hands!

Was a good day although I left fairly early.

Beebmaster and I made the 4 hour each way trip to visit. We were there for a few hours from 12ish.

Beebmaster got the exploded beeb (with torch z80 in the lid) and a RISC PC from the charity stall. I grabbed the 230Mb Syquest from the Orpheus bloke and an original Beeb full height drive, which should look nice in my atom disc pack.

Yes, Ian and I made a surprise special guest appearance at the South West show!

I didn't hold out much hope for the RISC PC, the battery was badly corroded, and after a vinegar treatment last night, all I was getting was suspicious crackling noises coming from the speaker.

This morning it appeared to be totally dead at first, till the hard disc came to life, and then I got the red screen of death. I didn't get chance to count the blinks, and next time it went straight to a Supervisor prompt. After that a Delete-Power on has brought it back to life completely. The first couple of times it suffered from random freezing, but that seems to have gone away now.

It only recognises 4MB of its 8MB, but one of the RAM chips was corroded so perhaps that bank of RAM is bust.

I'm just verifying the hard disc now, and there are more errors than Superform could cope with...
