RISC OS (+ABug) London Show / Sat 29th Oct 2016

Postby helpful » Thu Oct 29, 2015 3:50 pm

Thought I'd try to set some sort of record for the earliest event announcement by putting up next year's London Show exactly a year in advance :-)

Put Saturday 29th October 2016 in your diary now. Usual venue of the St Giles Hotel, Feltham, TW14 9AD, open 11am-5pm.

http://www.riscoslondonshow.co.uk/

Let's try to make it even bigger and better than this year!

Well having given a whole year's advance notice, here is your 10 week countdown to the London Show!

I'm sure I'll be badgering people in Cambridge next weekend to work out what ABUG stands we'll have this year :-D

Hi everyone,
I met helpful (Bryan) a few weeks back at the Cambridge meet up. The London Risc OS show isn't far off now. Obviously this event has more emphasis on machines that came after the Beeb. That said, the Wakefield RISC OS show often has a strong 8 bit presence from some of us here :).. It would be great to have some more 8 bit peeps come along to the London show and either visit or show their projects.

Tricky has already committed to come along and have his amazing array of Beebs for more Tricky gaming. I think there are several places left for tables (Bryan could you let us know how many?) ..

By end of October, I hope to have an update demo of my super smooth scrolling Tequila Worm game (that's not yet a game but will be honest) and will have it proudly on display, next to jBiplane with the speaker volume turned down.

Does anyone else fancy joining Tricky and myself in a bid to rival Wakefield for an "invasion of the 8 bit-ers (bitters?)" :)

We could keep a post on the thread updated with attendees like we do on the ABUG meets.

Cheers,
jbnbeeb...
I'm going to ..

I am very much up for this. I had in mind showing something sound/music related (given what I am working on at the moment). I mentioned this to Bryan when we were at Cambridge. I think he is considering the logistics of whether there is somewhere I can be put without disturbing the rest of the show  . In any event, I am keen to help out in any capacity. So count me in.

I was planning on attending but my arm is currently in plaster! Assuming the cast comes off in time and I'm able to drive, I'll hopefully be there.

Right, before I split my sides(!), some stand info.

There should be 7 x 5ft tables available for StarDot stuff, about the same as last year (when I think only 6 were used).

Two of those are allocated to Tricky, assuming he is bringing along his usual quota of Beebs, but the rest are up for grabs.

Cost will be £5 per person, i.e. same as the normal show entrance ticket price.

If anyone taking a table can come up with a title and description of what they will be showing then I can put that up on the show website.

And for everyone else not showing stuff, come along and support your fellow StarDotters!

Hope to see lots of you there and put more names to faces :-)

Just under 4 weeks until the show, we are starting to finalise the stand layout, so anyone who wants a stand to demo their projects please get in contact quickly! Either post here or email show2016@riscoslondonshow.co.uk

Thanks,
Bryan.

Pixelled in too on the website exhibitors list, under BeebOPL :D

http://www.riscoslondonshow.co.uk/exhibitors.php

Also got Tricky and a generic ABug entry on there, which is basically jbnbeeb at the moment! (Jason, if you want your own listing, just give me a title and brief description)

Hey Bryan,

I would like to come along with my BBC Master kit on a stand for the show - I can demo some of the music + video + teletext stuff we've been working on. Although might be drowned out by Lazarusr's BeebOPL amp!

Thanks,
Kieran

Excellent, good to have you along! I loved the teletext YouTube teletext video display in Cambridge :-)

Do you have any ideas for a title and description to add to the show website? Otherwise I'll try to make something up.

Although might be drowned out by Lazarusr's BeebOPL amp!

We'll seperate you as much as possible!

I was rather anticipating that we would be together; with only one of us 'outputting' at any one time.

But if it is 'Battle of the Sound Chips' that you want..."

I think you'll win that one! I agree, it would be better if we are together in the 8-bit corner. I will take you up on the offer of using your Master kit rather than dismantling my own - will make the Saturday logistics a lot easier.

We were only going to separate you by putting you either side of jbnbeeb! Although what that would have done to his hearing/sanity by the end of the day I don't know

Having discussed with lasarusr at ROUGOL tonight, we'll put you together on the same table(s).

Hey, don't worry about Jason! He subjected a room full of us to 8 hours of his Biplane intro-tune at a meeting last year  I think we were all insane by the end of the day

I'm looking forward to it! Not long now.

I've managed to get some examples running on the ex BBC kit including the Apex cards, Alphalock cards, Prisma 3 and the early A440 genlock Arcs.

I've got some footage of corroded battery repair (exciting stuff!!) on the RISCPCs based on my talk this year at a ROUGOL meet. Any interest in an edit short version showing how to do it?

If there's space, I might also bring a relatively recent acquisition... a RISCPC powered embroidery machine..!

Also looking forward to being able to buy some spares at the charity stand, and to get some riscos 5 Roms for a riscpc I'll be using to archive.

I would say about getting the new version of RISCDJ software, but as the writer is my brother, I'm already beta testing it for the show ;) (shameless plug).

Cheers,

Paul.

It's an Aisin POEM 500, driven with Techsoft's software which takes draw files and sprites.

I hope you have a good turn out :)

Likewise. It was good to catch-up with people and to see lots of Beeb-related stuff on the go.

Also picked up my BeepOPL so can't wait until I get a chance to build it and have a play.

Thanks to everyone who put in time and effort to make the show happen.

I had a great time. Delighted to see so much interest in what the 8-bitters were up to. And always great to meet new people. Also, I appear to be getting to the age when I can't recall meeting people before, so I have the pleasure of meeting them for the first time twice. :?

Sadly, I don't think my loudspeakers enjoyed the event as much as I did - looking a bit worse for wear after a fall in the car park.
