We're well on the way from Derby- on the train from Brum to Milton Keynes at the moment.

It turns out the trains are actually much better than the online Journey Planner would have you believe. I think that's because it always allows a ludicrously long amount of time for connections.

Well we had a great day today and fixed 2 beebs!

As far as I could tell the whole event went really well and most of the pile of broken machines got successfully transferred across to the "fixed" pile by the end. Great to meet a few faces from the forum. My son Robert really enjoyed it - and he's never fixed a computer before!

Awesome day ... thanks to all who came and helped out :)

I'll post a proper reply when I'm not using the pub's interwebs ... must get a 3 or 4G dongle or replace my 11 year old Nokia

Apologies to jbn for "de-railing" the thread though to be fair I think it's more of a "co-opting" ... the common ground as I saw it was the Econet beebs and getting them working first if we could as these will hopefully be used in some old-new marriage goodness in the soon time ;)

A rough guide to the final figures is:

3 Model A's and one Model B+ = 4 +
24 normal + 7 econet checked and added to the database = 32 +
12 normal + 1 econet checked but still to be added to the database = 13
(We were fixing them quicker than Ollie could log them :p)
16 Broken / recycled as spares
2 "unprocesed"

Summary:
Working: 49
Not working: 16
Unsure: 2

Of 67 BBCs

Again ... a huge thanks to all involved

:D

... and greetings kees! Thanks for the feedback :)

It took me an age to format out all the modern stuff and make sure any RSS news feed looks nice and like it was made for the Atom

I'm going to do a TeleText version, AtomTel version and ANSI version of the newsfeed to revitalise these old formats

I keep refreshing the econet login page just for the pure novelty value of seeing the news "Atom Styleee" :)

Back ooop 'north! JBN, thanks for rallying the troops. Phill - excellent organising! - Great to see so many people, and so many beebs brought back from the dead, and in such a fantastic and interesting location. :D I have 0 photos, but some should be forthcoming!

And I'm back in rainy Somerset (started raining as I approached my home town :( ). Got back just before 20:00 even though Google Maps send me along B and unclassified roads through small narrow villages to get to the motorway instead of the main A roads

Of course there may be a good reason, but I think someone at Bletchley pinched a vital part from a Google UK server to fix a Beeb, as we used up all the new spare 10nF and 100nF X2 capacitors . And in so doing, wiped out Google Maps sanity

A good day indeed.

I got back OK, but made the mistake of following the satnav to get there until I arrive at a with that said no access to bletchly park!
Really enjoyed the day, thanks to Jason and the people from tnmoc.

Not at all - no need to apologise - your "accessing Econet over the web" service is a very cool development and I hope to see a more detailed write up soon =D> =D> =D> :) [any chance of a full breakdown of how it works + source code?]

Oddly I've had the same problem with my TomTom satnav, in coming back from the Bletchley Radio Rally in the past :) Never anywhere else just Bletchley / MK

Cheers.

Hi,
some pics from the day.

Great day overall. Really great atmosphere. Everyone was chatting and laughing away whilst keenly soldering with power supplies, motherboards and key caps everywhere!

Thanks to Danielj for helping me out so much with working out how to repair a Beeb PSU. In the end it wasn't so bad.. and I realised I can solder after all! Today has given me the confidence to want to have a go at some hardware projects.

Thanks to Tricky for fitting a speech chip to my Beeb so I can play AstroBlaster with oodles of efficiently processed speech; everyone needs to see and hear it in the flesh :) Tricky'll be demo-ing this at London Rougol in October.

Thanks to PhilM - now a volunteer at TNMOC, and Owen at TNMOC for putting this day together.

What a great day out!

Good to meet familiar friends and make new ones and to get to fix some beebs too! What more could one want on a Sunday?

Not only were some beebs fixed but I was also able to find 5 MIA educational titles and archive them. 8)

I'll post them soon.

PS: Great to see the junior section of StarDot represented too.

On that point, I have a box of discarded ROMs from Owen. I will go through them soon and post a list. I can't imagine I've got anything particularly spectacular but you never know :)

Yet more pics.

A couple from the main museum exhibits, including the mighty Colossus. The Acorn bits were in a room adjacent to the classroom of the 80s, and seemed to be being used as a storage area and not on public display.

I had a great time fixing beebs and meeting people. Lunch was a nice surprise. I know money is tight so next time I would be happy to bring sandwiches or go to the pub. If Owen feels he must feed us I would be happy with a loft of bread and some fillings. I don't how the others feel about this.

Agreed. The pizza was very nice but I would have been happy to buy my own lunch :)

Maybe we should have tested the addons we removed, as the extra duplicates could have added a little to the funds via eBay, or possibly and end of day auction.
I would be happy to bring my own lunch, although the pizzas did add to the social side of things.

Hi,

anyone any thoughts on the Acorn room pics? I'm intrigued re the Mega IV prototype which looks like a filing cabinet draw witha circuit board in the bottom. Can anyone share any insight as to what it might be by looking at the photo of the motherboard?

Also, there's a little write up in the Latest News section on TNMOC

I got a mention! :D

Also, I'm pretty sure the Beeb in the front-centre of the picture was one of mine. I remember as I had to combine two machines to make it and you can very clearly see the two different colours of the case halves.
