Show organised by Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club
Wakefield 2012 is sponsored by MW Software and Opheus Internet

Our forum members tend to prefer the smaller, personal gatherings so this is the first of two events that we're recommending people from here try to get along to this year. With only two events, we're hoping that will encourage more people to attend each one. This is also the last event emulator and game-maker extraordinaire Tom W will be able to attend for a while, so yet another reason to get along. We'll have a Retro Software stand with some of our current stock, and will endeavour to show off whatever surprises we can bring together.

Assuming good weather, we'll probably also have a forum pub lunch at the Navigation Inn, which is within walking distance.

As usual, do let us all know if you're planning on attending by posting a reply to this topic.

Attending:

  • Samwise
  • Tom Walker
  • BeebMaster
  • sorvad
  • Dave Footitt
  • paulv
  • trevj
  • Poink

Possibly attending:

  • Arcadian

It's likely I'll make it again this year and have more time to spend too.. Had to head off at lunch time to meet up with friends in Leeds last year...

Typical! Definitely not attending as I'm running a radio/electronics
show in Suffolk on the same date :-(
I have really liked to get to this Wakefield one too.

What show is this? (Or is it not 'retro' related)

Hmmm... Seems like it's the week for Acorn related sites going AWOL... All the pages on the Wakefield Show domain appear to be missing at the time of writing... :-/

I'd better get the trains booked; hopefully the usual shuttle bus from the railway station to the middle of the motorway will be laid on again!

Booked on now, getting to Wakefield about 11.15am; shuttle bus willing, I should be at the show well before noon.

So, for us Southern Softies, where the bl**dy h*ll is Wakefield then ?

Nice to see Replay moving a little further south - by 2018 hopefully it will have moved to somwhere near Milton Keynes so it doesn't take 4 days to get there and £3million in diesel

Well, the demo disk for this weekend's show has now been finalised thanks to TomW!

Anybody visiting the Retro Software stall will be treated to a preview of Bomber Blaster, Tom Walker's Dynablaster-alike, that supports up to four players on a BBC Master.

You'll also be able to see the release candidate of Jools H's 2D interpretation of Muscle March on the Nintendo Wii, entitled Mixed Grill March which will be officially launched at next month's RetroVision event in Oxford.

The latest preview versions of Dave Footitt's Mountain Panic (v0.8) and Blurp will also be available for callers-by to try out, whilst the recently-completed, final(?) builds of MazezaM, SameGame and Sparse Invaders will be on display, as will other Retro Software favourites.

Last but by no means least will be a WORLD EXCLUSIVE(!) first preview of Darren Izzard's BBC/Electron conversion of Jon Cauldwell's Byte Me for the ZX Spectrum.

According to Darren, All the in-game stuff is there - every level, monster and powerup - and you can play using keyboard or joysticks ... all that is missing is sound/music and although the hiscore table is displayed, you can't add to it as of yet.

We also hope to have an Electron there, running Byte Me and Bomber Blaster, as well as other Retro Software classics such as Repton TLR, Jungle Journey, Hyper Viper, Hard Hat Harry and MazezaM.

Well, did you make it, Doc? If you did, then shame on you for not making yourself known at the Retro Software stand! ;o)

For anyone wanting pics, then wait for Beebmaster's photos, as he took a bucketload of them!

Though I did tweet a few pics via the Replay Events Twitter: http://www.Twitter.com/replayevents

The WROCC were once again excellent, helpful hosts and it was good to see the usual suspects there, as well as meet 'Poink' for the first time too!

Here's to next year's show! :)

My first bit of tinkering with one of the bits of hardware I got from the show...

Nothing special just cycling the bits on the parallel port :D Doing a Cylon visor and Knight Rider (2009) effect
