A3010 and HCCS A3010 Ultimate Expansion System

Postby Zarchos » Fri Mar 07, 2014 3:27 pm

Hi all !

After receiving a smashed A3010 =D> I decided to tear it apart and use its HCCS A3010 Expansion System to equip another A3010 without hard drive I had.

So... guess what ? I'm here because it does not work.
Board is from 1992, and has an EPROM with label saying 'A3010 IDE V1'.
It's got a 1 Gbyte SD card with IDE to SD adapter.

I've got no docs or software, and there is none available on Acorn Chris pages, so any help appreciated.

Symptoms :
- the podule is recognized (listed by *PODULES)
- I turned the IDE function on (*CONF. UltimateIDE 1)
- I configured IDEFSDiscs 1, and IDEFSDrive 4
Switch OFF, wait 5 seconds, switch ON, to get a 'FileCore error' when RISC OS initializes.
I've got a very nice hard disc icon 'IDEFS 4' sitting on the iconbar, and can't access anything with left mouse button.
Middle mouse button offers some options but all leads to 'FileCore error', as expected from the initial error message when booting the machine ...

Thanks a lot for your help :?

According to my HCCS manual you need:

*Configure UltimateIDE ON
Reboot
*Configure IDEFSDiscs 1
*Configure IDEFSDrive 4
*Configure IDEFSDelay 8
*Configure IDEFSTimer 4
*Configure IDEFSDircache 32

Note: IDEFSDiscs needs to match the number of partitions, probably 2 for a 1GB.

If you drop me an eMail I'll send you an ADF of the configuration floppy. If you ask really nicely, I may even PDF the manual for you :D

Thanks ! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

I 1st try all the settings, before further annoyance ;-)

WWOOOWW It does work !
Yay !

I've got 1 drive with 512 Mbytes.
The SD card used is 1 Gbytes, so I tried
*CONF. IDEFSDiscs 2
to see if there's another partition, but here I get an error message.

Was my idea correct or should I try sthing else ? (just re read your 'note' so I guess the answer is 'yes')

If I remember correctly what the Ebay seller had posted (picture), there was only one icon, so i guess there's no 2nd partition.

I'd love to have the docs and the software when you find the time.

A big thank you, anyway.
Today's not been one of the best, so at least it's about to end on a positive note (with an Iyonix that could end up in the hands of sbdy you know well and brought help to your project, btw ... and it's not me)

Cheers,
Xavier.

I've just checked on my hardrive and I think Jon never sent it to me.
It's true I'd be happy to get the pdf too.

Three years later, but I just wanted to say thanks - this thread solved the same problem for me - ebay bought A3010 with HCCS XPan system that lost its config in transit. Hurrah for Stardot!

If there's still interest I found what appears to be the PDF manual here:
