A3010 hd interface - just 8 bit?

Postby nudelooney » Tue Jul 11, 2017 10:00 pm

Hi,

I've inherited a A3010 with a HD interface. The old mini HD was knackered, so I've replaced it with a CompactFlash card.

Odd thing, though: I've put a 128MB card in, but HForm only formats it to 64MB. As I know some homemade HD interfaces on the beeb only work in 8-bit mode (every alternate byte ignored) I was wondering whether the designers for this HD interface did the same.

Does that ring a bell with anyone?

(I suppose the best way for me to check would be to pull the CF card out, image it with a PC, then check it wih a hex viewer.)

I assume you're using the RISC OS 3.1 HForm?

Have you created a custom format in HForm, and checked the total size adds up to 128mb?

Remember HForm was written in 1991, so the default options include only the typical hdd sizes of the time...and 64mb is the largest listed.

The A3010 mini podule uses 8 bit data transfer, but this only affects the hdd data transfer speed, not the available capacity.
