Ahoy there!

Postby Phlamethrower » Fri Nov 24, 2017 7:11 pm

I'm that crazy person (aka "Jeffrey Lee") who decided that his first involvement with the RISC OS source code would be to port RISC OS 5 to the BeagleBoard, despite receiving multiple warnings that jumping from ARMv5 to ARMv7 might be too much to handle.

As punishment for my arrogance, I've been cursed with a todo list that grows faster than it shrinks. But for some reason that hasn't stopped me from continuing to work on the OS, leading to my involvement in many of the other hardware ports that have arrived during the ROOL era, as well as many improvements/additions to the OS itself.

As you can probably guess, my main interest is in 32-bit machines which can run RISC OS 5. But I also have a soft spot for the Archimedes (since the A3010 was my first Acorn machine), and I can appreciate the skill that's involved in pushing the 8-bit machines to their limits (and often beyond).

Mostly I'm here to lurk, but I figured it was best to introduce myself anyway, as is customary here.

Welcome Jeffrey - the BeagleBoard port got me back into using RISC OS and 32-bit Acorn machines.

Welcome and sorry for breaking your cover. :D

There's more and more 32-bit stuff on here these days, as it all starts to become (even more) retro. If RISC OS had sunk without trace post-Acorn then I expect we'd be trying to salvage bits of it like we do with RISC iX and other more obscure operating systems. At least someone is keeping it going, so all credit to you for taking on much of that role. :)
