Hi,
I am retired. Moved house recently and had a loft room built. The loft is filled with my stuff (some say its my toy room). Model railways OO and N gauge and acorn computers. Recently I have been a over enthusiastic bidder on eBay, with the result I have lots of acorn bits, most of it not working. With plans, big plans, for next year. I was informed I had cancer earlier this year and today am in chemo cycle 10, so I spend quite a lot of my day at my laptop or in my room. During my career I worked in R&D as a software engineer. I hope to find things to do with the acorns that can enable me to use my skills. I was never a hardware engineer but in the future I plan to have a go at hardware. My first task is getting my acorns working. I was a techie and enjoy talking techie. I also enjoy helping others with advice. Hope it will be useful. I enjoy making the computer program rather than playing with the end result. My big challenge is to build an ECONET ring. Hope to contribute to the forum and need advice from those who know things - I will be learning!
Derek

Hi Derek,
I was diagnosed with Cancer in April 2015 and ended up having 6 cycles of chemo followed by a resection of my left pelvis leaving me officially disabled, having to use crutches to get around. One of the things that kept me sane throughout it all was to be able to get away from everything, play with my computers (well the ones that didn't go into storage anyway) and read the forums. I hope that like me, you're finding Stardot as useful for the camaraderie and banter that it provides as much as it is useful for the many technical conversations there are.
Thankfully, I'm officially two years clear now and despite only having half a pelvis my recovery is going well so next week I'll be attending the ABug winter warmer, my first Acorn related event in over three years! Maybe we'll see you at an event some time in the future too.
Anyway, welcome to the forums and good luck with the rest of your treatment
