Hello

Postby LukeGacesa » Mon Jul 24, 2017 3:06 pm

Hello, I'm Luke, 34, work at Lancaster Uni.

Just got a BBC Model B after about 15 years of not using a BBC. It appears to be in working order and came with a CUB monitor and a stand and that's it! Nod rive, no software etc...

I've ordered some new capacitors and will fit them as a precaution this weekend. The next task is to try and source some software and a drive. I have been considering a flash drive as I have seen some on eBay, and spoken on the facebook forum to a few guys about them. Any advice appreciated.

It would be lovely to own a disc drive and discs in time when money allows.

Anyway, hello!

Welcome to the forum Luke! A real disc drive adds to the retro experience but a memory card solution is more convenient, why not get both! :D

Does your BBC have a disc interface installed? It should say Acorn DFS (or Watfort DFS) under "BBC Computer 32K" when you switch it on.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

My BBC is an ex-University machine. I wonder if there are a few still about, perhaps in the engineering department. I think I will do some investigating!
