Hello from Barcelona

Postby javierglez » Tue May 16, 2017 1:03 pm

I'm a VIC-20 bred guy with a mostly 8-bit Commodore computer collection.
I recently got an A3010 from eBay. I love it. No software though. But several manuals.
I find the brand interesting since I listened to the interview of one founder in the USA Computer History Museum.
I'm adding a BBC B soon, which seems to be the most appreciated model.

My first attempt to burn TOSEC images with OmniFlop flopped. Although successfully wrote adf images on two Acorn-formatted NOS HD floppies, the Acorn wouldn't read them. I used a Pentium 4 with Windows 7.
Next week I will try OmniDisk on my Pentium 3 with Windows 98 and its known working floppy drive, before start asking for help. [-o<
I maybe doing some common newbie mistake so I post here the story. For example, I don't get the 1600k format and 800k one sided images thing.

Anyway, I'll be around here from time to time.

Another Xavier !

Welcome amigo, enjoy this great forum !

Xavier.

PS : You'll get all the help you need here.
1,6 Mbyte diskettes are formatted 'high density', the 800 kbytes : double density.
Both use both sides.
1st Archies used DDs, then from the A5000 Archies used HDs.

Welcome! :D

I'm sure the 32-bit experts will be able to explain how to put disk images onto disks. In the meantime, remember that many A-series machines can read DOS-formatted floppies. :)

Welcome and enjoy the forum!

With Omniflop an .adf image needs to be renamed to .adl to write correctly.

Thank you everybody,
The 800k disks and .adl renaming tips did the trick for Omniflop, and the floppy drive is alive and kicking TOSEC images. :D

Do be aware that some of those tosec images have viruses on them :D (most archie viruses are pretty benign AFAIK)

I just googled it, you mean http://ftp.uni-stuttgart.de/pub/systems/acorn/riscos/, I guess.
Thank you, sure that's interesting.
No I wasn't aware of viruses. Without a hard drive though  I guess they can't hurt me.
I have to remove the battery now, fortunately it's pretty solid.
