Hello from Greece.

Postby rmbrowngr » Wed Jan 17, 2018 7:24 pm

Hello. It’s been along time since I own and used an Acorn Electron but now I’m enjoying it again. My original Elk was from 83. My father drove all the way from Lowestoft to Bury St Edmunds and back to get it for my birthday as there were very few places to get hold of one. I quickly got hold of a Plus 1, printer and joystick, but stopped there for expanding the hardware. I quickly realised that the joystick was almost useless because of the lack of game support and it stayed in its box most of the time. The main reason I chose the Elk from all of the other home computers of the time was that I had a friend with a BBC Micro and thought how much better it was than the ZX Spectrum. Real keys, better sound, better built etc. And it was half the price of a Beeb. I had own a ZX81 previously and was some what jealous of my friend but didn’t have the cash for a full Beeb. Eventually I sold my Elk when I got my first 286 PC for 80 pounds. I recently got hold of an Elk on eBay. I had to get hold of a new power supply, cables and some new keys. All through eBay again. It works just fine even after all these years. As I replaced some keys I took a look at the motherboard version and it is an issue 4. Next up is to buy a GoSDC as a DataCentre from Retro Clinic requires a plus 1 and AP5. I wish it had an expansion port adapter.

Welcome. :D

Why do I keep collecting Acorn gear? I'm going to need a considerably bigger man-cave. :?
