Converting UEF to WAV

Postby Lion » Sun Mar 29, 2015 8:46 am

I've been using (or trying to) FreeUEF 0.9, a Windows tool, to make WAV files from UEF files. I've then been playing these into my beeb via an iPod, but I'm having some problems.

I'm convinced FreeUEF is making bad WAV files, as my beeb always starts getting "Data?" errors about 10-12 blocks in, no matter what I am converting.

Is there a better tool for making sound files from UEF tape images?

I don't know if it's better, but uef2wave worked flawlessly with an Electron the last time I tried it.

I've found that the waveforms written by uef2wave, even though they are somewhat different to what I would have expected, seem to work really well with real hardware. The early Castle Raider demo I have on YouTube was loaded from a cassette without issue. So, after 30 years, we can finally load from cassette without too many "Rewind tape" errors.

I found FreeUEF a bit finnickey too (even more so than real tapes!)... it would only work on my beeb if I turned the bass down and treble up on my amp.

I might have to give uef2wave a try...
