used to play Everquest years ago like 1999-2001 - was part of a guild called Europa Tribes. Did the website for them. Crazy game, would have 30-50 players all logged in ready to do a Raid Boss quest - could take anything upto 6-8 hrs playtime to defeat it - lol :)

I keep wondering if I should put my old copy of AberMud 5.21 online... but then I remember it was written so long ago that it probably has a gazillion modern security holes in it and any server running it would be compromised in hours!

Even putting it in a container (to protect the OS) might still expose user passwords...

Back in the 80s I ran an Abermud (v3 I think) on the Oxford Physics Orions. I was learning C at the time and I found a bug ("=" should have been "==") and after I fixed it the monsters would start to randomly attack. People complained that the game was a lot more violent as a result :-)

(I also ran a Bullet BBS instance as well. I keep wondering if I should put that up online!)
