Windows Remake of Elite any thoughts?

Postby Pablos544 » Fri Nov 24, 2017 1:30 am

Hi guys,

Just seen this on facebook "Retro Games Forever" group about Oolite by Giles Williams & Jens Ayton (Windows) .

Some folks seem to be really praising this game.

With so many recent coments on Ian Bell vs. David Braben, Elite versions, I'm surprised this Oolite never came up? -Pablo

I played it loads a few years back. It's great! There is a fantastic community built around it too. Check out the forums - can't remember the address atm.

I used to play that on my PowerBook G4 more than a decade ago; it was fantastic then and I assume still is now. The graphics have definitely improved.

It was Mac exclusive for a long time because it's overwhelmingly written in Objective-C — the Oo in Oolite is for 'object oriented'. A quick glance at the build instructions suggests that OpenStep is still a dependency for Windows.
