Addictive's Football Manager

Postby fuzzel » Sun Apr 23, 2017 9:19 am

Does anyone know if an editor was ever written for Addictive's Football Manager, perhaps appearing in one of the BBC Micro magazines ?
My son's currently playing Fifa 17 on his xbox and I'd quite like to update the data on Football Manager to create a modern Premier League or Champions League version.
I remember playing it for weeks back in the day, a great game, even the highlights were fun to watch.
Also, does anyone know of any alternatives that were any good ?

Not sure if there's an editor for FM - I played it for hours too BITD!

The Micro User had a similar BASIC type-in game that I also used to play lots and you'd obviously be able to change the data with that. From memory, I think it was from September 1987 (the one after the Archimedes launch) but I can't check as 8bs is offline.

There's a file on the tape image called CUSTOM which allows you to do just that!
I've done a quick tape to disk transfer.
Files were originally *RUN, to maintain the PAGE at &E00, which then just did a

Code: Select all

PAGE=&E00
OLD
RUN

"No Room" error if CHAINed at &1900.
Setting the PAGE to &1300 appears to make the game run OK, as far as I checked.
CHAIN"CUSTOM" to change the details :)

Thanks Bill. I'm a little disappointed with the number of players in the game although on the plus side it won't take long to change them.
You start off with 12 players from a total of 24 (presumably the other 12 can be bought on the transfer market).
As the game's in basic I presume it would be possible to increase the number of players though ?

Actually, thinking about it, the game's set up about right. I can choose my team's first team of 11 players plus sub and then have 12 other desirable players from other teams which could include the likes of Messi, Ronaldo etc who'll I'll buy during the game.

You can certainly edit and change the teams on the Electron version of Football Manager, as I remember me and my brother changing all the names of the teams to silly things and local things , looked really funny in the results !

Don't think it was too difficult to do either.
