Re: VIDC enhancer pins on the A540 : question

I doubt it's a VIDC Enhancer as the A540/R260 had that circuitry built in on the motherboard. Thats' why RISC OS 2.01 exists.

A photo of the area you're talking about would be useful in id'ing the hardware.

Re: thebbclives website gone.

<snip previous quote> Ahhh, thanks. I actually fixed all that lot over a year ago. Since then however, I've moved from old 32-bit hardware to brand spanking new 64-bit hardware and the application software has had quite the upgrade. The fix was to have a custom 404 error handler which could convert...

It is complete, however I'm hosting it on a non-PHP server and it was a PHP site to the fact that it runs at all is a bit of magic ;) If you can point me at the files you're having issues with accessing, I can fix those parts of the mirror so it is at least a bit more workable. Re: A5000 keyboard problems

The first thing I'd do is strip down and clean the keyboard. If there's a lot of dust in there then it can cause issues. There are a lot of screws in an A5000 keyboard so make sure you have a good pot to keep them all in before starting the strip down. Second thing to check is whether the keyboard f...

Hi, So yes, 8bs.com is another great site, with a lot of magazine scans, which I do have fully backed up already. (lets hope it comes back.) Also.. archive.retro-key.co.uk/bbc.nvg.org is not a very complete reproduction of the original site, try clicking on any of the archive software links and you...

No idea! I just picked some ambient youtube royalty free music that matched the length of the video which didn't offend me too much and was reminiscent of the sort of music they'd play when transmitting "Pages from Ceefax".

Re: CJE dual VGA output upscaler. Questions.

A VIDC Enhancer does change the timings of the VIDC yes, in so much as it makes an A3000 the same as an A3010, A3020, A4000 or A5000. As different Arc's have different standards in this respect, a VIDC Enhancer makes the older ones the same as the later ones so in effect "standardises" th...

Re: CJE dual VGA output upscaler. Questions.

It could well be the difference between the TV's in France and the UK. Although I'm not entirely sure these days about support for different standards being built into TV's but in the UK we have PAL, in France you have SECAM which is similar to PAL but not quite the same and sends colour information...

Re: CJE dual VGA output upscaler. Questions.

No, it's plug and play. Which is easier than installing a VIDC Enhancer to get proper refresh rates but you don't get quite as good a display as a VIDC Enhancer because the GBS82xx is effectively sampling and upscaling the signals so you can have jitter and artefacts as Daniel has observed. With a V...

Re: CJE dual VGA output upscaler. Questions.

You don't need a power supply in a SCART cable for the A3000. That's only for "auto" detection purposes. Most TV's have manual input and aspect ratio selection capabilities.

I have several clients that have tried the Let's Encrypt route and all but one has gone back to a more traditional certificate because they've found that many browsers simply aren't happy with the Let's Encrypt certs. I'd be quite happy to chip in to an SSL certificate fund if there was such a thing...

I had the same problem with mine. I don't think it is possible to buy a new keyboard socket, but I would be delighted if someone was able to source an equivalent. The best thing to do is use a multimeter to check continuity of all the tracks in the area, and then repair the bad ones with Kynar wire...

I wasn't planning on selling it, I want to restore it and have a play because the machine has a bit part in the story of the BBC Micro in that it could well have been the BBC Micro and what we now call the BBC Micro would have simply been the Acorn Proton.
