Re: Nearly cooked one of my beebs tonight...

I thought I'd see if I could get screen corruption in MODEs other than 7 so I left Elite at the "Load new commander" screen for an hour... Sure enough, this is what happened.

Re: Nearly cooked one of my beebs tonight...

Well, it appears that I was wrong about the Video ULA being the source of the problem... After about 3 hours of heavy programming use this evening with lots of MODE 7 and MODE 2 work, things started to go awry again. This time, it didn't seem to be video related at all. I think I have a general over...

Nearly cooked one of my beebs tonight...

When I was 12 I wrote an art package for the Beeb which I thought I'd lost to the mists of time but last week I found a print out of the source code in a dusty old folder in the loft... Anyway, I decided that I would re-enter the program into the Beeb and let others play with it when I was done. I'm...

Re: FTP clients and...

Yes, I got FTPc working eventually and it was some of the libraries that shipped with the latest toolbox that aren't 26bit compatible that were causing the problems I was seeing in the first place. Sorting out that let me run FTPc.

Re: JGH's Teletext GetPages utility

It was definately the discs, I've now got a stack of 12 floppies all from my latest batch that I bought that refuse to format in PC, Amiga and BBC driven floppy drives :( The problem with those discs is that on their first format and verify, they appear to be just fine but within 10 minutes of use t...

Caving

This was a "typed in" program I had and lost back in 1982/83. I've been looking around for it for a while and I ended up finding a screenshot of the entire code listing so I ran it through an OCR web service, corrected a few OCR errors and have been playing it on and off for a couple of da...

Early Learning

Ok, so a long, long time ago, I had the foresight to transfer most of my bought cassette based programs onto audio CD just in case they degraded. It turns out that I did a good thing :-). My BBC Soft "Early Learning" cassette is destroyed it seems and has just left a dusty residue all over...

Viglen cartridges

Has anyone got any Viglen cartridges they could spare. Ideally I'd like 4 or 5 but could cope with 1 or 2. I've got 1 cartridge ATM but the case is broken so it's not ideal. There are 11 on eBay at the moment but I have a feeling it's going to turn into a bidding war and I figured I'd ask here befor...

Re: JGH's Teletext GetPages utility

@Greg - The floppy drives are only 4 months old and work fine with any other disc other than these TDK discs just fine. I very much doubt that the heads need cleaning at this early stage in their life. @Mark - I'm pretty confident now that the faults I was seeing on the Beeb I sent to you for repair...

Re: JGH's Teletext GetPages utility

Well, there's good news and bad... After tinkering with the program and there being no change, half way through one of my tests, the floppy gave up with disc fault 18. I then burnt through another 6 new floppies until I found one that would format. Once formatted and the original progr...

£850? I don't have as many monitors and certainly not as many 6522's although I know who to ask for one in the future ;) but our collections are similar with the exception of the fact that I seem to have tons of books... JGH's Teletext GetPages utility

So I've just downloaded GetPages from MDFS.net and it seems to work great, going through the motions of grabbing a page (or set of pages) and then the disc activity light goes on, the disc whirs but there is no file on the disc once it's completed :?: It's most odd. I'm running the Acorn Teletext ad...

Re: !Internet, !OmniClient and !smbserver

I installed the NFS services for Windows and the shares show up on the Arc but attempting to access them fails as you definately need a Unix domain and a Windows domain to provide Unix authentication services where the Unix users and groups are mapped by the Windows machine to available Windows user...

Re: !Internet, !OmniClient and !smbserver

Hi Mark, As I understand it there are a few ways to get access to Windows shares and this is what I've found up to now... Windows shares: 1 OmniClient - v1.05 seems to only support CIFS using NetBEUI rather than TCP/IP so there's bob hope and no hope there... But you should be able to do NFS over TC...

Re: So I finally got around to taking some photos!

Therein lies a glimmer of light. You just need a disc interface for that Elk now.... :-k Yes, I've been looking at this thread with interest :) ATM though I'm saving my hobby pennies for some Econet Terminators, T-pieces, clock, cables and an upgrade kit for one of the Beebs. The hobby fund took a huge hit over Christmas when my c...

Also it could avoid uncomfortable questions if you have to have any dealings with the police..... That's why you should always keep a receipt too! UV ink is the worst as it seems to soak right into plastic and I've never successfully removed it... In fact, I have an Amiga 1200 with my parents' post...

Re: How to remove yellow nail varnish type secuity ink

The last time i had to do that, I used Isopropyl Alcohol, fairy liquid and a lot of elbow grease. The results aren't "perfect" on textured surfaces but the markings are almost totally removed and on smooth surfaces the results for me were "perfect". Using IPA could damage some pl...
