Re: LOLPRICE

You can kind of tell if the cellophane shrink wrap is original or not because it actually gets scratched and damaged over the years and goes dull. But that depends on how it's been stored and whether it's been handled much in the meantime. Outside of that, the only thing cellophane is good for is th...

Re: Bit of a project.. Part 1: How to go about 32bitting my 26 bit 4th..

Use !ARMalyser https://armclub.org.uk/free/ I used that to help convert the Assembly code that was written inline in the original VIDC Enhancer source. That way, rather than blowing up when attempting to run it on a 32-bit machine, it fails gracefully with a proper error. Even though the Enhancer ta...

Re: 32 bit Fault finding index

My refurbished A3000 died a couple of days ago. After 6 hours up time, I went to reboot the machine and it failed to come back. Power cycling the machine left the BenQ 912 monitor flickering between a black screen and a no connection warning screen. The floppy drive light was flashing. It returned t...

Re: Which A3010 Monitor?

Benq monitors are 5:4 ratio but most can display TV modes as well as VGA modes if you tell RISC OS 3 that you're using a multisync monitor. I have a Benq 912 hooked up to my A3000 with a VIDC Enhancer to bring the display capabilities up to those of the A3010.

Re: Old hardware and keeping it 'original'

I've ranted about this sort of thing before. For me, repairing a device to working order supersedes keeping it "original" unless there is something exceedingly special about the "original". For instance it's serial number is 0000001 and the damage to the perceived value would be ...

Re: When does a device become retro?

It's interesting to read all the different replies on this. It seems that the general consensus is that there's no real overarching definition, it's more of a subjective item by item, use type thing. I'm happy with my initial definition of retro in that respect for me. I was just interested if other...

When does a device become retro?

When do you regard an old computer or games machine "retro"? Is it age or generation or a mix of the two? For instance, a Wii might be eleven years old but is it "retro"? I think it's just old at the mo but I do regard the NES, SNES and PS1 as retro whereas, like the Wii, I think...

Re: VIDC enhancer pins on the A540 : question

The VIDC Enhancer circuitry is on the motherboard on the left hand side just under your hand in the photo. You can see the extra oscillators. As for your mystery add on board.... Not a clue as to what that could be at the moment.

Re: VIDC enhancer pins on the A540 : question

I doubt it's a VIDC Enhancer as the A540/R260 had that circuitry built in on the motherboard. Thats' why RISC OS 2.01 exists.

A photo of the area you're talking about would be useful in id'ing the hardware.

Re: A5000 keyboard problems

The first thing I'd do is strip down and clean the keyboard. If there's a lot of dust in there then it can cause issues. There are a lot of screws in an A5000 keyboard so make sure you have a good pot to keep them all in before starting the strip down. Second thing to check is whether the keyboard f...
