Re: XNView

Strange. Do you already have a file or directory called convert.png? It should complain if there's already something there called that.

Also, note that it creates a directory with the name you give it as the second argument. Spritefiles can contain multiple sprites, you see.

Re: XNView

The cmdsyntax module is available here . I'm not sure Dave has a newer page for it, or whether it also resides in an online repository. No, I never bothered to put the repository anywhere public. I suppose I could do that. Alternatively, or maybe additionally, I could remove the cmdsyntax code from...

You might have some ideas about my turbo loader question - http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10964&p=182169#p182169 Easy enough to insert a standard asm preloader at 1200 baud in front of each game UEF. Not sure how to do this though...and in a way that doesn't occupy electro...

It's fascinating to read these interpretations of the schematics. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, hicks! It's interesting that developers of FPGA cores are now revisiting work done by the emulator authors, only now with hardware rather than software. :)

Re: ST506 HDD woes

I had (still have) a SyQuest SparQ drive that failed at an inconvenient time. Fortunately, Cannon/Cumana (who supplied it for Acorn machines) were able to recover the contents and put them on CD-ROMs for me. I seem to remember that SyQuest were being sued by Iomega at one point, so maybe the mechani...

Welcome from another Electron user! :D

There are photos of the First Byte Joystick Interface circuit board at Chris's Acorns but no circuit diagram. Maybe there are owners of the interface who can take higher resolution photos for you.

Re: XNView

I used spr2img from the Spritefile package to convert the two sprites. I hope they are represented correctly. Use

Code: Select all

python setup.py build
and

Code: Select all

sudo python setup.py install
to build and install the modules and spr2img tool on your system.

What's the control interface for the game like? Does it use on-screen buttons or does it make use of an external game controller?

Re: 128K banked flash ROM cartridge

David, if you use SOIC packages for the components on the rear of the board and solder-in the main IC on the front you should be able to fit the board into a standard cartridge Case. I was thinking about using SOIC packages but wondered if I'd be able to solder them. My next step will be to solder ...

I posted a message in the Today I received thread about some cartridges I had partly designed and ordered from a PCB manufacturer. http://stardot.org.uk/forums/download/file.php?id=32668&mode=view The design is a bit like the one in the Simple Electron flash cartridge with 39SF010 + 74HCT00 thre...

Re: BBC Domesday Project - Source code available

The SparkFS archive .... This compression format is not compatible with modern PCs (and is a nasty proprietary closed-source format) and is therefore only suitable for use on a RISC OS machine. So, zip it with SparkFS instead. Or use nspark on other platforms. James Woodcock seems to be keeping nsp...

It would be interesting to see an Acorn-specific version of Easy 6502 that uses the MOS VDU routines for printing characters, changing colours, accepting input and so on.

You need to install Ophis so that the tool can assemble the ROM images. I'll add something to the README.txt file.

Reviving this thread since my Electron's power socket does not connect very well with the jack from the power adapter, I wonder if this Barrel Jack Power Switch - M-F (3") switch is usable. Apparently it has a 5.5x2.1mm barrel connector and should be rated for 2A (see the comments on the origin...

Re: Electron cassette i/o scope trace

As you suggest, it may be that 10 consecutive 1-bits is given as a way of indicating and guaranteeing that the audio is not data, because 10 1-bits could not represent valid data. With my experiments with a real Electron I tried to reduce the leading high tone before a data block and found that the ...
