Head magnifiers with lamp

Hi Folks, What do people use to help them with soldering? I'm thinking of head lamp magnifiers to see the work more easily. I'm sure some of my work that's not quite up to par is just because I can't see it well enough and I'm probably going to start a project or 2 in a bit and am wondering what peo...

Don't think there is one FS. You have to use your 'intuition' to figure out where you should be shooting.

Re: High Score Challenge S9 - R5 - Perplexity

Just a note folks. Restarts are not going to be banned. We work on a trust system here. We don't purposely let our guy die just to pimp the points so let's just do our best and if we get a high score because we're inept at the game, it's just the way it is for this particular game. I know it doesn't...

Re: High Score Challenge S9 - R5 - Perplexity

I will remember it and one day work my way through all the levels though. It's totally my sort of game :) That's definitely one of the objectives of the High Score Challenge, I think - finding some gems you missed from BITD, or new games like Richard's Centipede. It's not all about winning. :D WHAT...

Re: Restoring Beeb #5

=D> Looks pretty good for a 20 quid machine. :D It actually is in pretty good shape. I'm surprised because this machine exterior is crazy dirty. It needs a good retrobrighting which is coming up probably a couple of weeks. The inside was the usual 'dusty' dirty, nothing horrendous but the washing r...

Re: Restoring Beeb #5

Well, the keyboard had 2 keys that wouldn't work to start. I used electric contact cleaner to get one of them working (used it on all the keys for safety use down the road) but the other refused period so using a donor keyboard, I replaced it. I also deep cleaned the keyboard, Q-tips for the under t...

Everything seems to work fine on this new/old Beeb so now it's time to shut it down and get the retrobrighting done......and of course get the keyboard working as it should.

Re: Restoring Beeb #5

ok, looks like the pin was very, very slightly out of alignment. After many scourings with the magnifying glass and patience with a small screwdriver was able to get the pin in the right place and I've attached the DC. Re: Restoring Beeb #5

All the pins should be straight and true. The two eject arms/levers should sit so that the line socket can 'plug' in freely. On the line socket, none of the connector holes should be filled in or blocked. Maybe give the plug and the line socket a clean with IPA (IPA in a spray can / aerosol can is ...

Re: Restoring Beeb #5

Still have a problem with the DataCentre but I'm sure it will fix once I can get the connector on all the way. It is reluctant to go past a certain point and I can't see why. That's usually down to one of the pins being bent / folded. I agree and checked for that but can't see a bent pin anywhere. ...

Re: Restoring Beeb #5

Well, 2 problems....... after hooking it up to a DataCentre and monitor.... It wouldn't boot with the DC, just a long beep so the port is likely hooped. Restoring Beeb #5

Well folks, I went and got the Beeb out of my workshop. I had yet to clean it, cap it or make sure it works. I bought it for about 20 pounds a bit over a year ago. It was dirty, looked like it was kept in something other than my workshop, like maybe a loft that had some holes that let the weather in...

Re: Master Keyboard Issue - need expert opinions

Ok, noone has yet confirmed that I should be looking at track 15. Would someone please verify that for me. Next thing is it is related to the Master being on long enough to heat things up, at least that's what seems to be happening. I've never troubleshot a keyboard schematic but it shouldn't be too...

Re: My Wife

All the best, Ed. I think doing as you are doing - counting the blessings you had - 42 years - is a better approach than dwelling on what you've lost. Celebrate the life and the person and the good times you had. Doesn't feel like there's much useful we can do to help, but we're here. Take care, Ri...
