Re: Master Keyboard Issue - need expert opinions

OK, something weird is going on.

I just turned my Master on and lo and behold, the keys all worked. Heat causing problems with solder joints as in expansion issues?

Re: Master Keyboard Issue - need expert opinions

Yes, that sounds like a pretty good plan. I think if the chip was bad, I'd have no keystrokes working....that's not the case.

I was just wondering if I was reading the schematic correctly as to 15 on PL1?

Thanks for your solution,

Re: Master Keyboard Issue - need expert opinions

Mostly I need to know that I'm reading the keyboard schematic correctly. I'm guessing that the line is broken somewhere or has a cold solder joint that has come loose.

Yes, I first came upon this game on my A3010..... loved it on that platform but this is pretty good, not quite so colourful but playable nevertheless.

Master Keyboard Issue - need expert opinions

Hi Folks, My Master keyboard has a few keys not working. At first I thought that I must have some sticky keys, after all, it's been a while since I used my Master and I wanted to check out White Light on it.... it's awesome btw. Anyway, here's what I discovered. The keys that weren't working and sti...

Pipemania Challenge Issue being resolved soon

Hi Folks, There is a slight problem with the SSD for PipeMania - We're going to stop the challenge until Daniel can fix that problem so for now would you all kindly cease submitting scores that are using the current SSD. Daniel noticed something that is offensive in today's current clime so we'll le...

Re: High Score Challenge S8 - R7 - Bumble Bee

The controls for this type of game are 'ok' at best in my opinion. Most mistakes that I'm making aren't ones of strategy, they are ones of key presses but let's remember, this is the 80s we're talking about so what should we expect. For a game of this nature the keys work ok, otherwise the scores y...

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

Can't believe its a solder joint problem the BBC where basically very well put together. you get 16K of ram and does the BBC then work ? you can type a simple basic program in and run it ? Peter. Hi V, It's 30 years old. I agree they were very well put together but time has a way of breaking things...

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

So you can get a working 16K BBC by setting S25 south and by removing S25? In that case either both memory banks are working or IC45 is malfunctioning. If both banks work if you select them individually (S25 south=CAS1, S25 removed=CAS0), that would point to the CAS selection circuit. It could be a...

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

I suppose it's good to remember that the screen print I put up was without any VIA, BASIC, or IC73 being in the machine. The keyboard is also detached. Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

But are you sure its a ram problem as with most you can run the BBC with one ram bank or the other if that's the case, or with the ram banks inverted so that the faulty half in in screen memory, otherwise the change is that its an addressing problem. But its easier to prove the 1st to be the case o...

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

Unfortunately, only 1/2 the RAM is socketed.) your lucky Ed, all mine I fixed had no sockets! so 1/2 the battle!! If you have a spare ram chip, could 'piggy back' the baddy first if not in socket, but never worked with mine or the electrons (only 4rams so easier). Hope you get it sorted, & it's...

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

Unfortunately, only 1/2 the RAM is socketed. If I can get the right 1/2 pinpointed, it would be an easy problem but the fact that I can't access Mode0 because the screen is so garbled is a problem. It's a matter of getting my inverter correctly connected again I think and seeing if it will give me t...

Thanks folks,

Lots of things for me to do here yet. I'm about to head to bed, it's 4 AM here and though retired, I suppose I shouldn't burn the midnight oil every night.

I will look over the suggestions and try to do them in a proper sequence.

Thanks again all,

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

Have you checked the OS socket connectivity? If you are changing the OS chip a few times this may become a bit fragile. When you are saying that it takes (took?) a few ctrl-breaks to get it to boot, can it be that it is just warming up? So that waiting a while can help? Checking the OS socket's not...

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

Hi Folks, Ok, I thought I had done the steps Mark suggested, and I had. I should have started my thread that way. When I did this before, the Language? prompt did come up every time. Now (I forgot to put the S25 jumper back to North) what I get are 2 lines of blocks on the screen. Obviously, somethi...
