Re: BBC and extras for sale

Cheers for the pricing advice. Where is the best place to try and sell it? I'll give it a week or so here, just to give people chance to see it, but is eBay the best place, or are there better options for old computers?

BBC and extras for sale

Hi, I have decided to sell all of my BBC stuff, as I never use it anymore, I can't imagine my son wanting to use it, growing up in a world of touchscreens and funky graphics, and I could do with the space and money. I don't really know how much to ask for it, and as I have had help from here in the ...

Re: How do I load new screens to Repton

I thought it was Repton Infinity that had a level editor and supported saving and loading. Perhaps try that.

Delayed Introduction

I should probably say hello properly, as I came along asking for help but never really introduced myself. I'm a child of the 80s who learnt to program in BBC basic and assembly language, first on my Dad's BBC B then on my own when I had enough savings to get on second hand, and then moving on to his...

Re: BBC Model B on a Go-Slow

Thank you for the speed test link Mark. A model B should take 111.2s to print the numbers 1 to 10,000. Mine takes 65.9s to print the numbers 1 to 100, so is running about 60x too slow! Thank you for the VIA suggestion Mark (there are some very helpful marks around here). Having put the user VIA in t...

BBC Model B on a Go-Slow

After sorting the PSU, keyboard cable and OS ROM socket, I finally had my BBC up and running again. I spent a couple of hours yesterday evening playing around on some of my old favourites (exile and elite amongst others). Whilst playing elite I was getting occasional screen colour flickers and then ...

Re: Beeb 6502 second processor

Bah! Just missed the end of the auction for the case! I usually wait til the last few seconds to bid on eBay but hit the Internet glitch problem and eBay didn't accept my bid. Guess there is no point bidding on the copro now as I have a B and therefore no way of connecting it! Edit: and it looks lik...

Re: BBC PSU blowing its fuse

It's actually turned out to be the OS and ADC sockets. The ATPL ROM/RAM board has managed to force some of the contacts in the sockets so wide that the chips aren't connecting properly. I've placed a tiny sliver of solder into the holes with an issue and everything has sprung into life, so I now nee...

Re: BBC PSU blowing its fuse

Mark/retroclinic helped me to select the correct bridge rectifier from RS (he didn't have any to hand) and the power supply is now working perfectly - 5v on all the outputs. I now, however, have the issue of a single beep and no blinking cursor. The caps lock light is on, but won't toggle. I've trie...

Re: BBC PSU blowing its fuse

Somebody buy that man a beer: testing the the bridge rectifier in place suggests two of the diodes have, though I need to take it out to check it properly, just in case something else is giving a false reading, but I'm not well enough to trust myself with a soldering iron today :-& If it is dead...

Re: BBC PSU blowing its fuse

I've just checked the legs, and they are definitely not touching the inside of the case. I've also checked them with a multimeter and there is no short across either of the capacitors. I've noticed there is a seller on eBay called micro-storr who repairs PSUs for £20, is this reasonable, or are ther...

BBC PSU blowing its fuse

Hello, I was just setting my BBC model B up the other day, having unpacked it after moving house. After a period of using it the PSU went pop let the magic smoke out, though it stayed working for a few moments until the internal fuse also went. I did a bit of research and found it was the usual prob...
