Re: B+64K - 12k sideways ram working

BITD I preferred a B+ 128K to both the original Beeb and to the Master. The B+ has a much smaller footprint than the Master and has the shadow RAM and SWRAM found in the Master. However, today I much prefer the Master. It is my machine of choice as it is much more versatile when it comes to attachin...

Re: Hacking the school Econet

One of my students BITD managed to push a piece of software onto my computer via the Econet, which software monitored my keystrokes and echoed them on the student's screen. That way he worked out what the administrator password was. He then took great delight in telling me what my password was as so...

Re: B+64K - 12k sideways ram working

If you were to use 2 or 3 32K SRAMs plugged into one of the ROM sockets you could get 4 or 6 SWRAM banks. That's what I did with my B+ 64K. :D The shadow RAM is great when writing software that needs hires graphics and/or colour graphics. MODE129 gives one much more memory than MODE1. If the GXR ROM...

Re: Thermionic Valves

Nice. It is a shame that Mullard is no longer making valves. I loved the Mullard logo BITD. I used an EL84 and an ECC83 to make my first audio amp with an EZ81 as the rectifier. :D My mate used a 6V6 as the output and I was jealous 'cos it sounded better. :( Somewhere I have some UL84s that were use...

I've been busy archiving today. :D

Attached are two compilations of software, not all of it commercial. Some of these amateur titles are very good and I remember using them on my network BITD.

There are even some games that appear to be missing from the bbcmicro.co.uk site!!

Re: Thermionic Valves

I ventured into the flaxcottage valve vault again. This time I retrieved some television valves and an oddity I collected from a heavy duty stabilised PSU. 20P1.jpg U801.jpg These two valves above came from our very first television dating from 1953, a 12" B&W table top EKCO (very similar t...

Re: Thermionic Valves

When one looks at valves it is noticeable that there are several shapes that are repeated across the decades and across manufacturers. For valves which enjoyed a long production life, they may occur in several different envelope shapes and base configurations. The UU5 was a case in point. Jump to th...

Thermionic Valves

In another thread I promised to post some photos of my thermionic valve collection so I ventured into my shed and dug out some specimens. UU3.jpg UU5.jpg IW3.jpg VMS4.jpg ACSG.jpg PT4.jpg EF50.jpg EBC33.jpg 12E1.jpg All these valves with the exception of the EF50 were removed working from original e...

Re: Today I received.....

Thanks for the detailed photos. The U65/550 is a rectifier valve from 1929. The one I thought it might be was an audio triode. I'll definitely dig my valves out and photo a few. I have one which is held together with a nut and bolt inside the glass envelope! My earliest are from the 30s but the bulk...

Some cool looking valves from the 1930s 8) =D> Martin Those valves look great on display. I shall have to 'rescue' some of mine from my shed and put them on show in my man cave. The Master is great machine. If funds allow, fit it with a Datacentre and CF HDD. MMC interfaces are good but the Master was made for a Datacentre. :D

My Masters are 17.35mm for both. 17.3mm would be a better 'tight fit'.

Edit:
Side to side 97.50mm

I've not got a Plus 1 to check. :(

Re: Worth Taking a Look At

From discussion with the vendor on eBay, the Issue 1 BBC micro looks to be a Franken-Beeb. He sent me clearer pictures of the motherboard and it certainly looks like a real Issue 1 board. I am thinking that the mobo is an original Issue 1 which was fitted to a later, non-contemporary case, probably ...

Re: Worth Taking a Look At

The motherboard looks to be OK as an issue 1 but the PSU would be a linear one methinks. I have eBay-messaged the vendor asking about the provenance. See what he/she says. It is certainly an interesting item. If the board were to be genuine it could be fun to make an 'original' issue 1 machine aroun...

A BBC micro Issue 1 motherboard with DFS. Doesn't look totally original but could be working.
