Re: APPALLING games list?

I got 5 Star Games, a compilation by Beau Jolly for my birthday in 1985. It contained "Geoff Capes Strongman", the worst game ever. I think it was the only BBC Game I ever got that was totally unplayable. Ah yeah - this as well! If you're not sure whether the game has crashed or not, ther...

Re: APPALLING games list?

I was only a nipper at the time, and we were a bit hard up when I was a kid, so we didn't buy that many "full-price" games; and most of them were at least pretty good Superior Software games. I think the worst game I remember getting on a tape was the Elk version of Night Strike. There's n...

Re: Most under rated games

Assuming Starship Command Imogen are part of the "well-rated" list... I don't know why, but I've always had a soft spot for Caveman Capers! It's the precursor to today's endless runners, but with music stolen from another game and terrible unexpected slowdown, but it's kind-a lovable for t...

Re: Sphinx Adventure

You're quite right, there some - possibly better - maps already out there. Also (and I should have learned this lesson by now) I haven't yet found where I put it!* I'm pretty sure it's in the corner of my bookcase somewhere - it is slightly different from the ones on STH etc., and would be good to a...

Re: Sphinx Adventure

I never really got into this myself (my folks did when I was a young'n) but I think I still have an official "hint-list" from Acornsoft, along with a map. If this isn't already online, should I try and find / scan it?

Re: Boffin Level 20 : Impossible?

Nice work Reuben!

I think I may have done it once, but (a) using the Poked version that allows you to choose a starting level, and (b) spamming save states like a chump. But yeah, if you've got a save state of level 21, that'd be fascinating. This has bothered me for about 30 years!

Repton 3 Wall Query

Hi all, Sorry, this topic's probably a waste of everyone's time. However, there's been something that's bothered me about the Repton 3 graphics. Obviously there's only so much one can do with 4 colours and few pixels, but... this dude: https://41.media.tumblr.com/83309eeb3963c3a5a2de0eb5a36f29c3/tum...

Dude. That's amazing. It feels like a natural progression of the Repton series, if it had carried on into newer eras of gaming. Love the throwback level at the end as well!

Treasure Hunt (the other one)

Hi all, Sorry to bother you with this - I may have even asked before, in which case I'm a terrible human being. When I was a kid, our school had an "educational" game called Treasure Hunt. I always bring it up in conversation about how not to do puzzles in games, as, at the start, you had ...

Oh £$*@ing %"&! Sorry about that - I tried really hard to decipher what instructions were correct and what were not, and failed miserably. I've also not had time to play the actual correct version :( .

Re: High Score Challenge - S3 - Rd 7 - Android Attack

This game isn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be from the initial screenshot; I thought it was just a PacMan clone, but actually I can see now that it's a lot classier than that. My score so far; will probably have another go.

Re: bold, colourful and bright!

I think it's also timing. Qwak came out quite late in the timeline of Elk/Beeb games. Video games were still a new thing, and people were still working out what makes a decent "look". In the early days, even talented artists were probably defaulting to "as realistic as possible" ...
