Re: High Score Challenge S9 - R5 - Perplexity

Not bad, is it? I was off in Atari-STland by the time this one got released so I missed it BITD.

Almost got off level 1 but rolled the boulders the wrong way, and the final boulder was because of the reversed controls

So why does the pictured leaflet have both names?

Was one meant to be torn off (the Commando one) leaving Space Invasion for the German market? :?:

That's definitely one of the objectives of the High Score Challenge, I think - finding some gems you missed from BITD, or new games like Richard's Centipede. It's not all about winning. :D

You're not in marketing, are you? Well, I don't really know too much about the game -- although the person who sent it to me did mention that it made him "clinically insane". Ah, so it was marketing all along! Or was I meant to be looking at the date posted? :-k You've made some p...

Re: web shop / ecommerce site

Not sure about "wise words" :D Another option is to try and beat one of the mainstream CMS projects into having a shop as well - pretty sure you can do that sort of thing with Wordpress, but never tried myself. I've talked to people who have, so it's doable. (But obviously you then...

Re: web shop / ecommerce site

I think this is a bit like the LAMP CMS options - no one option quite meets your every requirement 100%, so whatever one you choose ... there will be some customisation (or living with the cons because the pros are enough.) I've looked at the options (this was a few years ago) and Magento is always ...

For all that the HP machine does go faster running Linux with GNOME than it did running HP's build of Windows 10 and is the difference between the machine being usable even if not especially snappy, and being utterly frustrating. I've never known a latop keyboard to use a different protocol/connection for various parts of the layout. Not quite the same thing, but don't the new Apple laptops have a dedicated chip for the fancy "keys" OLED thing that replaces the F keys? This is not entirely on-topic. :- EDIT: the T...

My experience with recent Windows versions - you get what you pay for, hardware-wise. On a good, well-specced machine with fast CPU, plenty of RAM, SSD - it's good (well, for Windows!) Consumer-grade hardware, especially low-end - world of grinding treacle-mode misery. I've used quite a few Dells, a...

All the best, Ed. I think doing as you are doing - counting the blessings you had - 42 years - is a better approach than dwelling on what you've lost. Celebrate the life and the person and the good times you had. Doesn't feel like there's much useful we can do to help, but we're here. Take care, Ric...

Re: Which Emulator for BBC Micro on Linux?

It depends, really. Usually b-em (once you get any dependencies sorted out), but for some games/applications you might find beeb-em works better. I was getting used to b-em but some recent update to my OS (OpenBSD) has made it unusable (on my TODO list to figure out what's behind that), so I've fall...

Searchable tags work well for this sort of thing so that's a good plan. So you can also include other names, misspellings etc. and ditch words like "an" and "the". More than one way to skin the tag cat (I've used a keywords field with full-text index in some projects, had a separ...
