Re: ECONET WOES

Does BeebEm also emulate the real-time clock module? I thought version 1.07 was an official Acorn version which is undoctored. Any undoctored version which needs, and doesn't find, a user port RTC module will exit with a "Clock failure". This can also happen if the module has died over the...

Re: BeebMaster BBC B Econet Kit

Right. It sounds like it might be a goer, so I will see what I can do. I can do B+ kits, previously I've done them as a supplementary set of parts to the main kit. I never ran out of Econet Modules, but I just haven't advertised them for a while as there is a ready supply of A4000 style modules stil...

BeebMaster BBC B Econet Kit

I still get enquiries about my long-defunct BBC Model B Econet Upgrade Kit, so I thought I would see if there was any interest on here in me doing yet another "final" batch! I've looked into it a bit and it might be a goer for 20+ kits. Assuming I can get all the parts and enough of them, ...

Re: Risc PC - starting from scratch!

I thought I'd made a picture set about this, I had a lot of trouble getting my RISC PC onto the Internet originally. Anyway, I can't find anything so I've made these tonight. Once I'd got all the exact configuration settings right, it was all OK: EthConfig1.png EthConfig2.png EthConfig3.png EthConfi...

Re: domesday

Yes indeed, and one of mine is a cobbling together of a working VP410 and dead VP415. And in the 15 years since I got hold of my first Domesday LV-ROM discs, they have degraded significantly to the extent that it is affecting video playback now. Probably in another 5 years' time they will be unreada...

I think all the VP4xx series can share the same remote, the one supplied with the Domesday System works with them all. It can take a wired link for players without an infra red sensor on the front.

Re: BeebSCSI full size + internal VFS adaptor boards

Yes, that would be good. It looks like BeebSCSI isn't going to be the solution I may have hoped to the backing-up-old-Winnie-to-flash problem. There's nothing in the documentation that seems to suggest it can be daisy chained to a real Winchester drive, although I haven't tried owt yet as I am out o...

Re: Possible BBC B Econet Upgrade Kit

Yes, it does push PAGE up, but just compare *DUMP of a file under NFS and ANFS and it's worth it. On the other hand the higher value of OSHWM might not be suitable for some games. If you have sideways RAM (which can easily be added using a 62256 chip and about 4 inches of wire) you can load ANFS as ...

Great find, these kits! Looking forward to hearing about lots more Econets in homes throughout the land! I think the only point that isn't covered in my instructions is what to do when the 1770 disc interface has already been fitted and you need to remove the wire link from the socket of IC87. I don...

Re: Wanted: ENFS

I would strongly recommend using ANFS 4.18 on a BBC Model B, which has almost all of the extensions found in Master 128 ANFS including solving the dog-slow OSBGET and OSBPUT. As an alternative SJ Research supplied PUTGET as a library utility which does effectively the same thing.

I use Sunfish on my RISC PC 700 and I have it set up to load it on every boot. It has 130MB RAM so I've never noticed particularly if it is all taking up a few MB. However the only thing I have to consciously load to get it to work is !Unicode. Everything else is either already in ROM (RISC OS 3.7) ...

And to answer the original follow-up question, the Econet-module-on-podule works well. RISC PC needs a modification to the Econet software module. Info about it all is in this thread here: http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8155 The good thing about this solution is that it allows...

I wonder if that ROM has been imaged. I can't do it as I don't have anything which can take a 32-pin chip.

Unless I can *SAVE the whole podule ROM contents somehow like you can *SAVE individual modules (or more) in the RISC OS ROM?

Re: Would it be possible to build website on a BBC Micro?

In short I think the answer is yes, but as others have said there would be limitations. Certainly you could use a word-processor or text editor like Inter-Word, View, or Edit, to write HTML pages, and use some bits of BASIC file handling to generate multiple pages of HTML from standard header and fo...

Re: Hacking the school Econet

I think we have reminisced about this before, but one particular "hack" which has just come to mind was that the key to our school computer room door was the same as someone's garage key, so we could "break in" at times when it was locked when there were no teachers about!

Dunno if this means anything, but I've noticed that whenever I refresh the page, hoping to see what bit of fruit or veg is going to show up next, that it always trips to a sort of text only version first before loading properly, like this:
