I've completed the whole game and posted a playthrough on my Youtube channel :) Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

This one took fifty-eight minutes. I'm going to have to swear off this game now.

Okay, it seems you get an extra life for every multiple of 10000 except multiples of 100000. And it's nice to be in the lead of a round for once  though this is my last one for tonight, so the others have a chance to catch up!

You get an extra life every 10000 points, but not at 100000. I don't know yet whether that's a one-off or whether extra lives stop completely. (And in case you're wondering, the 28100 is because I had been playing Lost Realms, and forgot my emulator was still set to 1.5x speed!)

Re: High score challenge - S2 Round 2 - Space Pilot

Excellent choice, I'm looking forward to competing in this round. It should be noted that this game contains a "points whoring" trick of the type prohibited by the general rules : destroy seven ships of one wave and then just fly NNE picking up parachutes without destroying the eighth (whi...

I see that no-one else has yet observed the rule change in the first post that allows a season 1 game to be re-nominated :P So, I'm going to nominate Chuckie Egg!

Repton 2 :)

To be honest, I think there should be a mechanism for repeating games that have already been played -- some games just are that good.

My personal best score on Chuckie Egg is 739,140. Sadly, being badly out of practice, I only managed 359,070 at this year's Play Expo 8)

Re: High score challenge - overall table

How many rounds are there per season? Ten rounds of two weeks each means the current "season" has already lasted nearly half a year, which seems a little unfair on latecomers as there's no way to catch up.

Re: Play Expo / 12-13 Oct 2013 / EventCity, Manchester

Yes, the queue was quite something. But the event was definitely worth it :D I'll write a full review when I have time, but for now, the most important thing. I completed Repton 2 on an actual BBC Micro for the first time ever (I have done it previously on an emulator). It was a tense run as I lost ...

Re: How do I load new screens to Repton

Sorry for the late reply, I've been on holiday ;) Repton 3 and its sequels (Around the World, Life of Repton, Repton Thru Time) have slightly different game engines. The only difference that really affects gameplay is that Repton 3 has a primitive algorithm for deciding which direction spirits shoul...

So... no write-up yet? Then I'll do my best :) Jonathan and I turned up immediately after breakfast on the Saturday, and were very glad we did... I estimate there were about 100 people ahead of us, and 1000 in the queue total by the time the doors opened! Unlike previous events, there was nothing in...

Re: Replay Retro Gaming in Leeds 4-5 Aug

Sorry to have missed you, Dave :( But it was a good event -- as well as the usual retro classics, there were some very interesting racing games on the more modern systems, and a rare but welcome chance to play Worms against human opposition :) As I've done at other events, I named my team after Haru...

Re: The Savestate thread!

This brings me nicely round to something. At my school, there perpetuated a myth that when you had reached a certain level on Chuckie Egg (I think level 33) that you had two yellow birds to contend with. Was this widespread? It was only years later when I played the Amstrad version that I realised ...

Re: identify game from very vague description

1st Game as described very vaguely by my friend. He played a game on his school BBC where you were a wizard and you could pick up keys to open doors. That is about the best description i could get out of him. He described it as an arcade adventure type of game - like Citadel. I have tried him with ...

Re: Castle Quest, Stykers Run 2, Plan B etc

It's true, difficulty levels back in the 80s were insane by modern standards -- but there are two main reasons for this. First, most of the old quest-style games didn't have any way to save your progress, which meant you had to complete them by a long process of exploration and trial and error and p...

There was a very interesting stand close to where I was waiting, as well -- celebrating the 25th anniversary of Bubble Bobb...

Re: Repton 3 level credits

Thank you! :D Very glad you liked those levels. I agree with you about certain elements being underused -- no doubt this was partly because the designers all worked on levels individually, only getting each other's input when it came to testing the finished thing; partly because the LARGO levels alr...
