Re: Z80 on a BBC B

Hi Keith - you don't need the Torch disk pack to run the communicator - it's just a double disk drive. You can use whatever's convenient! But you will obviously need a disc solution of some description :)

Re: Z80 on a BBC B

Welcome! Matchbox copros aren't available anymore, so unless you can find someone willing to part with one, that door is unfortunately closed :( Instead you have a few options: Cheesewedge Z80 (expensive) Torch Communicator (£40-50ish, come up on ebay from time to time). Pi-Zero copro (needs a level...

Re: ICS Wizzo IDEFS for A5000/A4 (+A3020/A4000...) improves CF card support!

Wizzo works perfectly with my CF-SD adaptor, which I believe is the same as the modern SD-IDE adaptors...

Re: ICS Wizzo IDEFS for A5000/A4 (+A3020/A4000...) improves CF card support!

Fantastic... I shall give this a go with the 3010/3020. The nice thing about Wizzo on the A5000 is, however, that it lets you have 4 partitions on one drive.

All my CF/SD/IDE kit is currently compatible with everything so I shall seek out something incompatible :)

Excellent. And would it also explain the inability to format?

Re: ICS Wizzo IDEFS for A5000/A4 (+A3020/A4000...) improves CF card support!

John, this is really good news! The potential problem is, unfortunately, the chicken-and-egg of loading the patch when it can't talk to the drive - or is the entire thing an issue with writing to the drive?

Re: RISC-PC Not Working

Have you got a picture of the circuit from Chris's acorns? Riscpc technical drawings? Basically you need to replicate the clock circuit there in its entirety, taking 5v and 0v and the other two signal lines from the podule connector.

Re: RISC-PC Not Working

So, all you have to do is wire up the equivalent to the clock circuit (resistors, crystal, capacitors, battery, CMOS IC) , and attach pins 5 and 6 to pins c20 and c19 respectively on the podule connector?

Re: BBC + Torch Z80 Help

CPN is the Torch version of CP/M and it's basically just looking for a disk most of the time, hence the hanging. If you swap the Torch ROM and BASIC ROM (2nd from the left) you should find the beeb boots up in BASIC rather than CPN and you can use it normally :) The fact it's booting into CPN means ...

Re: RISC PC two slice pins

I don't know what the core was, but it is quite surprising the level of abuse they'll take without snapping. I know the 4 slice ones are metal. I really don't think 3d printed would stand up to that. Perhaps nylon, but I have no experience of it.

Alas, I don't think expresspcb allows you to export a netlist :( It's designed just for submission to expressPCB really :( - I printed the entire thing out on about 10 A4 sheets that I taped together.

Re: Repton 2 BBC Master 3.5" Disk

BBC Software is a bit fickle - it's not like speccy/c64 stuff where there are avid collectors, the beeb scene is more hardware focussed. Certain software titles do attract higher prices: Elite Exile Granny's Garden and 4mation titles Dr Who and the Mines of Terror Acornsoft Languages The rest tends ...

Re: RISC PC two slice pins

If you're in or near London I'd suggest heading along to the rogul show in Feltham at the end of the month, you may well find some there on the charity stall. Otherwise as you say, it's wait and see what comes up on eBay, see if anyone on here has any (unfortunately mine are holding my second slice ...

A 2732 should work if you just double up the content and tie pin 23 to ground? http://www.z80.info/gfx/eprom.gif

I did the SCSI-2 mod on mine, but not the parity mod. SD2SCSI works well with it in that format. JGH made a start on the disassembly: http://mdfs.net/Info/Comp/Econet/SJ/

Re: Broken MDFS

Hmm, no, that shouldn't happen - you should just get the disk free light flashing, there shouldn't be any error lights, even with nothing plugged into the SCSI bus. I'll double check on mine this evening (the sd2scsi isn't plugged into it at the moment).

Remember, each of those instructions ends up being just two or three bytes long once assembled, and executes in two or three processor cycles (of which there are 2000 every second)!
