Re: Advice on internal Datacentre 1MHz bus cable installation?

Could anyone who's done this before tell me what tools they used? I used a normal Stanley knife. It's rather a crude tool for such a job, but it was good enough. I cut vertically first at either end of the connector. with the bottom of the case in its normal position. Then I went horizontally betwe...

Re: Mac Arculator

I see RPCEmu ripped out Allegro entirely and replaced it with Qt5... that looks worth investigating too, because it would give us a cross-platform UI too. The last time I tried compiling one of the beta versions of RPCEmu against QT5, the keyboard didn't work, as there's apparently no way to get na...

I bought some of these (no. 8, 3/4"):

They aren't *exactly* the same, but they're not far off.

Re: Sideways RAM on the BBC Micro

Is there something like the BooBip boards that is suitable for the B+? The BooBip board I've got in my normal 32K Beeb is fantastic - easy to set up, convenient and nice and quick. Someone mentioned piggy-backing chips in a previous post, which sounds like a recipe for disaster with me and my clumsy...

Presumably this is the computing equivalent of that Simpsons episode when Homer put "speed holes" in his car. I give you cooling holes, Beeb-style:

Re: Do your family and friends 'get it'?

Brother and mum are interested insofar as it lets them (very occasionally) play games we all used to play in the late 1980s, in particular Mr Ee, Crazy Painter and Chuckie Egg. I think my dad is possibly intrigued but he's happy with all the modern stuff like Android and his Linux laptop. As for fri...

Re: Today I received.....

On Thursday, I received a BBC B+ (the 64K variant). Unfortunately I can't take any photos as the case and key tops are in the bath waiting to be cleaned and the rest of it is strewn around the upstairs of the house. It's rather dirty, unfortunately and the keystrip is is cracked. This Beeb proved qu...

BBC B+ 64K keystrip

Does anyone have a keystrip from a B+ 64K going spare? The one I've got says "British Broadcasting Corporation | 64K | Microcomputer System" (where "|" is a line break), but unfortunately it's got some damage in the speaker area. If not, I'd be happy with a normal Beeb one, but I...

Re: Philips BM7522 amber monitor

It's already been snapped up, sadly. I really do want a Philips one, as that's what I had when I was a child, until it got broken. The one I had survived a trip to Newcastle upon Tyne and back (around 8 hours in total) when I was at university, but unfortunately it didn't like being in the attic ver...

Not Acorn/Beeb, but I'm quite tempted by this rather nice looking IBM PS/2, despite having no need for it, nowhere to put it and it being on the other side of the country (400 mile round trip): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBM-PS-2-Model-30-computer-system-Model-M-Keyboard-8513002-Monitor/183115742796...

Re: Cumana Dual 5 1/4 floppy drive

I've got a Viglen dual floppy drive, also with a pair of NEC FD-1055s. Both drives have a circuit board hanging off the back that's connected to several points on the drive and to a toggle switch that allows you to change between 40 and 80 track mode. This worked fine on a Beeb with the older 8271 D...

What's even more silly is that whilst you need a PIN to watch the Sky movie channels before 10pm, you don't have to enter one to watch Turner Classic Movies (TCM).

I recently had my VM box swapped to one of their new V6 things. Utter garbage. It's really noisy and the software is atrocious.
