Re: Archimedes/RISC PC-era Look and Read games

Thought I'd posted this already, since mentioning it two years ago, but discovered I hadn't made an SSD of it! :D
No doubt the Archimedes version contained improved graphics, but the challenges are probably the same, I presume...

Re: Legacy of the BBC Micro User magazine / Database Publications Ltd

What Disk Analysis software created the sector dump, by the way? It's a BBC BASIC for Windows program that just looks at the FSD file and produces a report. The format is heavily borrowed / copied from Enigma Disc Imager's *IDDUMP, as is the FSD maker program! I think on some disk controllers you c...

Re: Legacy of the BBC Micro User magazine / Database Publications Ltd

I have a feeling that Disc Duplicator III (the freeware version) had additional "finishers" to make copies of Mini Office II and AMX Pagemaker (amongst others - perhaps something by Clares) work correctly... although I can't find the disk image anywhere at the moment... EDIT: Found DD3...

I'll try to get this sorted, when time permits, unless somebody posts it in the meantime...
Any specific settings i should be using when scanning?
It's a little A5-ish size booklet.
I've got the keystrip too!
And the disk image :)

Re: DiskToUSB error (paging jgharston)

A weird, clever method of copy-protection? Or corruption while imaging the disc? Or..? Wouldn't be corruption, i don't think, since all the data is there and readable. Could have something to do with the emulation of the size of the sectors, at a complete guess, since I'm not used to ADFS... Th...

Were all of your copies protection and / or novella check free? The review copy had the "well good evening i hope you're having fun" track and no files visible. Since the screenshot was in the May 1988 issue of Micro User (released to shops in April?) and still spoke of it having "scr...

If you're playing it on an emulator you'll need to enable writing to the disk / remove write protect.

Re: Uridium ssd file not found

So, that's all well and good, but it doesn't explain why Mick's version failed in JSBeeb but worked in other emulators (and also worked on a real Beeb, presumably -- Lee will be able to confirm that)! So the bug report for JSBeeb is still valid, I think. :?: It could be that JSBeeb is emulating eve...

Re: Uridium ssd file not found

I've copied the working game files from the original disk with the !BOOT and Uridium (the instructions - seems unnecessarily obfuscated code?) from the remastered version and also made the disk image 40 track, to save 100KB of download each time! Somebody else can tinker with it some more of it's no...

Revs Demo

Had a quick go... The track IDs are "reversed" in that track 1 has ID 26 and track 27 has ID 1 On the protected disk, revs1 decrypts itself then loads some data which includes the MODE7 screen as well as the code that creates the new catalogue and loads the new files (revs1, silver and rev...

There's another version of this floating around that doesn't include Magic Mushrooms, and also doesn't include the option to (R)un program. That would be this one! Re: Exile

I didn't bother loading, RTSing and saving EXILEL, i just created a catalogue entry that pointed to the original data. It'll also load up with *RUN O.EXILEL, since it's in the place it expects it to be. I've taken out all of the cheats from the April 1991 Micro User, so it just bypasses the password...

Found this amongst some disc images... imaged 1998, so the original/copy might be somewhere around. Don't think it's been tampered with, and must be a later version because it also contains Q*BERT & COLDITZ.

It's a shame we never saw some of the tricks that appeared on other platforms (like fuzzy bits which read differently from one time to the next), but as you say, the non-standard disk systems like Opus would've been a problem. That's how I've always thought Sherston disks work... One sector has a d...

Re: "Adventure Island" Does anyone know it??

Though, if someone does own a copy of the game, they should probably take steps to preserve (backup) the media and scan the documentation in the eventuality that they have the only surviving copy. At some point in the future it may be possible to revisit whether the archived materials can be shared...

Works fine in BeebEm in Model B mode with Watford Electronics DFS 1.30, but only if the game is run using *RUN BOOT, rather than SHIFT-BREAK or even CHAIN"LOAD" - not sure why! It's fairly trivial to retrieve the BASIC files (all 10 of them!) from the huge file PA, but then I think that th...

I''ve got Problem Solver 1.0 and 2.0, along with a Shibumi disk titled Rat Driver.

I'll have to hook my datacentre up to my BBC Master, but will attempt to get an image from the disks asap, corruption and / or protection permitting!
