ABug Manchester Friday 19th - Sunday 21st January 2018

ABug January 2018 - Manchester. Following on from the roaring success that was ABug Leicestershire we've been planning an event in January. Dave is looking to book a Manchester city centre hotel conference room (or rooms!) for an ABug on Friday 19th to Sunday 21st of January. This is a preliminary m...

Re: Happy Mrs Chicken!

Excellent, I spotted this yesterday, even with the minimalist game-play it kept the three year old quiet for 20 minutes. Do you plan on making more of this? D Thank you. I do plan on developing it further but I'm going to be working 7 days a week until Christmas Eve. I'm off for a week or maybe 2 o...

If you want I can write it to floppy and post it to you.

Re: High score challenge rules discussion.

A good counter-example of where allowing milking the game for points makes sense and should definitely be allowed (and, when we played it, it was considered OK) is the excellent Android Attack. You can play it by completing the levels as fast as possible, but you won't get the highest scores that w...

Re: High score challenge rules discussion.

Point pressing / farming / whoring has always been banned. Point-pressing, from what I saw in videos, is maximising your score, not farming. In e.g. a video I watched of Donkey Kong. There is a limit to the extra points per level you can attain there, so it's not farming. Similarly you might call c...

Re: High score challenge rules discussion.

Point pressing / farming / whoring has always been banned. The high score challenge here is based upon the llamasoft lleague at yakayak. The FAQ there states: 31. What about the bug in Game X that makes your character do an Irish Jig whilst increasing your points by 100,000 each time? Can I do that?...

Those are 3.5" drives, which are probably not what was wanted. DOH! #-o Well, my excuse is it was late and I was tired and somehow combined this thread with the 'BBC II micro' thread where they are taking about 3" and 3.5" drives. I could have sworn the OP asked for 3.5" drives!...

Great work.
I've always been of the opinion that econet is interesting but not that useful to me. I was thinking of trying to connect a ch375b usb interface to my beeb via the 68b54 socket but your arduino filestore makes econet useful so I may hold off for a while.

I also don't agree with 'no pokes', if those pokes are to change the keys, while at the same time it is allowed to change the keys on an emulator (to a different layout as I saw in various threads in the high-scores section, not just the original layout shifted to avoid e.g. caps lock). This is som...

I'm developing it in linux using a text editor[...]I need a way to automatically number the program. You might have the 'nl' command available: $ cat x hello there everyone $ nl x 1 hello 2 there 3 everyone If that doesn't exist then a simple AWK command will work: $ awk '{print NR,$0}' x 1 hello 2...

Well, I'm obviously not getting this one..... Just keep shooting the fireballs and ignore the ships. Don't hold down fire as this slows down your sights. Looking at the points awarded for a tie-fighter - 1000 - my advice may not be the best. Still prioritise the fireballs but don't ignore the ships...

I do still think that ROM cartridge slots back then were under used. And by the looks of a lot of "in-use" machines, still are. Well, I've done my bit: my Master Turbo is stocked up with a couple of 32K EPROMs on Solidisk bare-PCB cartridges. Me too. There is always at least one cartridge...

My first go. I seem to remember being good at this as a young 'un but that will have been the monochrome electron version and later the C64 version. Never played it on a beeb before. I presume we'll all be starting on wave 1?

Is it OK to have a procedure defined within a procedure so you have two DEFPROCs but only one ENDPROC. It seems to work OK in my example below. 10 PROCThat 20 PROCThisAndThat 30 END 40 DEFPROCThisAndThat 50 PRINT "This And "; 60 DEFPROCThat 70 PRINT "That" 80 ENDPROC

Hi guys. In the Manic Miner round Ed raised some concerns over the way he'd achieved his score and whether or not it was permitted within the rules. You would not get further until a while later. Why do it at all is because the score is the ultimate goal, not reaching a high level. With various games you can score differently per level depending on getting bonuses. Not really different. It's your choice on the rules and I'm not playing this rou...

Re: High Score Challenge S8 - R2 - Manic Miner

I means a temporary quick increase in score until you can get past further levels... This is the crux of the problem with it for me. How would you get to further levels if you used all your lives getting a 'temporary' increase in score. If you use 4 lives doing this you gain 8000 points which equat...
