Re: Ian Mcnaught-Davis

Today's Guardian had an obituary: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/feb/18/ian-mcnaught-davis Thanks for that. A shame that the journo didn't do his research properly, in one paragraph he states: "After The Computer Programme, which he hosted with Chris Serle, came Micro Live, which became...

Re: Ian Mcnaught-Davis

Well, at least they got there in the end. No doubt if it had been the death of a talentless celebrity they would have been all over it within minutes, then they would continue to lambast us with nonsense for days on end ......... Sorry, just me being cynical. :) Great to see the BBC running an artic...

Re: Ian Mcnaught-Davis

Excellent, thanks for posting the link to that. Mac sounds like he was a great guy to be around. :) I do wish that the BBC would properly release (online and/or on discs) the computer programmes that they made with Mac, starting with The Computer Programme, Making the Most of the Micro and then Micr...

Re: Ian Mcnaught-Davis

Very sad, I always liked him as a presenter (although I remember him dismissing computer games as a waste of computer power - I think it was in an earlier episode of Micro Live. I wonder what he thought of the relatively recent computer games, if he ever saw any?). I see that he had Alzheimer's for ...

Sounds like the event was a great success.

Are there any videos (or audio recordings) of any of the talks?

Re: Proper Space Invaders

Acornsoft published a high res version called Super Invaders:

Not an EXACT clone of the original (far from it), but very playable, slick and fast. :)

Re: New hardware

Easy enough to 'make your own' - there are companies online who print images of your choice onto blank mugs. Simply upload a photo to the site, Elite screenshots, design graphics, whatever. The possibilities are endless. Just Google for Personalised Mugs, here's one example: http://www.yourdesign.co...

Re: RGB SCART : MODE 7 'flickers', others don't?

I recall that there was a way to turn off the interlacing for Mode 7, the negative side effect being that the font didn't look 'right' as a result (understandably so).

It worked though - no flicker!

Wish I could remember what the command was ...............

Re: I'll Name That Game in One: Top Down Racing Game?

Is it listed here?

http://www.beebgames.com/games.php?sear ... ch_desc=on

That's just a search for anything with the word racing in it and screenshots aren't available for all of the games that match.

Re: Looking for Prestel pages!

Sounds most promising. Good to hear that Steve Gold still might have some of his old pages.

Wish that I had my old discs too, I'm a hoarder too but I think they were once stored somewhere damn and were thrown out due to mould, etc. :(

Excellent, looking really very good so far. :) I wish I had something to contribute in the way of screengrabs, etc but sadly all of my discs have long since gone. :( I used to freelance for Micronet (writing hardware reviews), also worked for Prestel Education editing their pages. I even helped writ...

I like them all, but the latter one is the best. Nice 'tight' design. Looks like it could be woven into a badge that you could wear on your jacket (or whatever) .......... say, that's an idea.

Latest update from Robert Holdstock's mailing list: Hi all, I've posted two entries today on the web site, one thanking everyone on behalf of Sarah for their messages of support. Sarah has been bowled over by the anecdotes and warm wishes. There's also a notice about the funeral arrangements - which...

Re: Sad News: Robert Holdstock has passed away

Incredibly sad - he was a superb author. I loved his Mythago Wood books, especially Mythago Wood itself and the wonderful Lavondyss. Here's his last blog entry on the Elite event which took place just a few days before he fell ill: http://robertholdstock.com/2009/11/elite-at-gamescity-nottingham/ An...

That board's not useless, those spades are dead easy to replace if you're okay with a tiny bit of soldering.

Best to send it via Special Delivery - it'll only cost about a fiver for such a small package, but put it in a small cardboard box to prevent any accidental bending.

Special Delivery is a guaranteed next weekday delivery service run by the post office. They've never given me any problems.
