Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

OK, so I have got LTEST01 to work on BEEB EM. That's good, because that is the first time I've used BEEB EM, and it went quite easily. Thanks for that Lurkio. On the back of solving the SNAKE puzzle (eventually!), I added a few bits to that room, including (well mostly) a little easter egg. I then, ...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

Unfortunately, when I try using the file you attached I just get Mistake and then Bad Program, or vice versa. The file I attached is a .SSD disc-image of GAC, including my test game LTEST01. (The .SSD is called LTEST01.ssd, but it's really just a copy of GAC.) You need to unzip the .zip file and th...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

Just tried it again on the BEEB in Conditions (Local), and it worked. I realised that I needed to give a command, and then it would trigger the death message. So why did it not work in B8? I'm back in business. Thanks Lurkio! It's working in Local conditions, which is what I prefer. Unfortunately, w...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

Unfortunately, my Spectrum was not playing ball:

R: Tape Loading Error

so I never found it if the same problem occurs with GAC on that machine.

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

So now you're saying that if you start a new GAC adventure from scratch on the Beeb, and then load QS, and then add a rule to test the condition IF NOT (CARR obj) -- it fails? That is what happened, yes. (By the way, I hope you're doing all this in BeebEm now, rather than on your real Beeb.) Well g...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

Well I tried a simple 2 room adventure on the BEEB, and it did not work with IF NOT (CARR 1) etc etc I then tried the same thing on my C64 ( I forgot how I love those datasette units!!). When I eventually got GAC and QS loaded!!! I found the same problem exists with GAC on the C64. I will now go up ...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

I don't actually think that IF ( 9 IN 1 ) is the correct way to implement this particular puzzle -- I think IF NOT (CARR 9) would probably be better -- but nevertheless the condition should still work as it is. I've played around with your game file (B8) by trying to add new conditions (High, Low, ...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

I think this should be it Lurkio. Also, you shouldn't include the words "All but one hatch is closed tightly shut. One is ajar" in the description for Room 10 because that won't be true once the player has fully opened the hatch. I could maybe modify that by saying that they are al...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

I think this should be it Lurkio. Thanks. Got it. Not yet sure why the snake doesn't kill, but I noticed another problem: the object numbers in your game don't match up with the noun numbers, which means you'll have to write GET (and DROP) conditions for every single takeable object in your game se...

Well I did mean that at first, but if I only sent the GAC part, hopefully, that should include my adventure?

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator (GAC) programming

Thanks for such a quick reply Lurkio, yes this is a better location. Now, if only I had listened to you a few months back and done all this on my PC using BEEB EM! Re: Graphic Adventure Creator

I need a bit of help please from one of the GAC scientists! Work on my adventure stalled for a bit leading up to Christmas, and I only got back to it yesterday. Re: Graphic Adventure Creator

Well today was the first time for ages that I had any Beeb/GAC time available. I set to work and realised pretty quickly that I needed to tidy up my work. So, I checked all objects, nouns, verbs, conditions, messages, rooms etc and noted them on paper. Once I had done that I wanted a Y/N response to...

Re: Adventure International "Return to Pirate's Isle" PLUS Mystery Fun House and Pyramid of Doom

Certainly easier on the eye, but still a fascination for some bold colour choices. I may give them a try on the Beeb one day. There was one I was trying last night that was all locked doors and security cameras. It just wasn't doing it for me. The text certainly did not help though, which is kind of...

Re: Adventure International "Return to Pirate's Isle" PLUS Mystery Fun House and Pyramid of Doom

I'd never actually tried any Scott Adams text adventures, not even on my VIC 20, so I thought I'd give some a try as I have all the VIC 20 titles on my Mega Cart. That told me why I never did text adventures on the VIC 20 years ago! Unfortunately, as it only has a 22 column display, that makes text ...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator

I’d not heard of that one before, but having looked on Wikipedia, that does seem to be how it was written. I see there was a C64 version, I’ll have to give it a go. Until getting my Beeb and playing L again, I’d forgotten how much I like adventure games. I used to like fighting fantasy game books to...

Re: Graphic Adventure Creator

Wow! I think I actually have made some progress with GAC at long last. I have made 3 rooms (well one is a corridor really), included some objects, nouns, verbs. I have set some local conditions and some messages. The adventure actually plays for a few goes. Nothing very exciting yet, but it's a star...

Sounds ominous! I'm sure Oregon was pretty tough in the 1800s. I read they had some Bubonic Plague in 2010, so goodness knows what it was like way back then!

It certainly helps me, thanks Lurkio. Now I can print the whole lot, double sided and make a booklet by stapling the left edge. Re: Graphic Adventure Creator

I may well prove to be the same... I have an adventure or two in mind that I want to write principally for fun, and also for my boys. I think this would be the best way for me to get an adventure, well any game for that matter, written. BASIC is complicated enough, but assembler is like magic spells!

That's great Richard Toohey, many thanks. I shall be printing that off sharpish, as I am now ready to get going on my adventure! Re: if you make me mad, i will

For the first time, I think I understood something about Assembly language, thank you. So the Beeb had a built in assembler, on Commodore machines, people had to write their own, or maybe use a propriety one (if they were available). Probably the same with Sinclair too. I can see why the Beeb was th...

Not seen Doodle Jump before. Looks good too.

Another one that would be good on the Beeb is Stranded 2.5, look it up on you tube. I suppose it is a variation of Bloxorz.
Those, along with Tetris are my favourite types of games.
