Re: Starting a Prince of Persia port...

LOL. Well I've finished up on WhiteLight (shoot-em-up) for Sarah Walker. Unless she has any last minute tweaks she wants. I do have my own projects I'm currently fiddling with  , but I'm always willing to help when I can. :D I just started wading back through the (epic amounts of) PoP code. F...

Re: Starting a Prince of Persia port...

Its a pretty quick and dirty digitization through Image2BBC, I added the text and tidied a few pixels up. I would probably spend and fair bit of time tidying it up more for proper artwork for a game. Wow, these look amazing! OK, I promise I will dust off the code and start looking at this ag...

Re: Starting a Prince of Persia port...

Did a comparison with other 8bit/16bit versions.... the BBC wouldn't be doing too badly against the others... Actually the BBC version could have the Yellow flooring of the Master System version, to give it more colour. :) Not sure what colour scheme the NES version was going for.. LOL http:/...

Re: Acorn Art Thread

Back in the Acorn Electron days I used a type-in program from Acorn Electron User to do artwork. Took hours to produce pictures. I did some lovely stuff, well I thought so anyway. I remember doing a version of the Spy Cat game cover because I thought the one used on the game wasn't very good. LOL I...

Re: Acorn Art Thread

Dithering is the key. Best combination for 4 colour screens is Dark Blue, Red, Green and usually black. From that you can get loads of pseudo colours. :D Blue/Red - Purple obviously. Blue/Green - A sort of light Blue colour. Red/Green - A sort of Yellow colour. Then obviously Black/Colour for variou...

I did this for Castle Defender too... :-)
I tend to work in Photoshop on the PC working with 4 colours in this case, then convert the image to BBC Scr format.

I've done several bits of converted artwork for various projects... Dunno if that counts... LOL 8) I've also done graphics for other projects and some mockups (Sabre Wulf BBC/ELK) as well as my own stuff such as Raven Wood. http://i.imgur.com/uYVixDj.png http://i.imgur.com/lKWR40c.png http://i.imgur...

Re: The Darkness of Raven Wood

Dethmunk, how much memory did you have for the main program after screen memory and location text is loaded in? It's in Mode 5 and to be honest once everything is loaded up it pretty much takes up nearly all the ram that is left roughly 22k I believe. Although someone like Lurkio or others who've w...

Re: any interest in a character display with sprites?

Just tried the demo..... niiice. They are running around pretty quickly I like it. Just what I'd want. I think to make it useful for people like me (no machine code experience) is a very simple and detailed (step by step) documentation on how this all works, what I need to do to get my software to t...

Yes there would be interest.... definitely. :D As Simonsideburns mentions AGD is a great piece of software and I've been able to write 2 games so far. 1 is finished and can be found on my website... http://johnblythe5.wixsite.com/rucksackgames/foggy http://i.imgur.com/ctuDdQx.png This is the kind of...

I'll hopefully get around to doing a little writ...

Re: New Acorn 8bit? Should there be one?

As for actual interest, I get what people are saying. That could be the thing that curbs development. The NEXT has created a lot of interest and could spell a new time of bedroom coders producing some nice 8bit stylee games. Certainly with some new Game Creating software starting to appear such as J...

Re: New Acorn 8bit? Should there be one?

The point is its an 8 bit machine. The ethos would have to be in keeping with that. The Master is a good approach. A machine that runs BBC Basic, 512k ram to keep the built in limitations. Keep the expandable rom sockets and interfaces if possible. But like the NEXT introduce more colours to the mac...

New Acorn 8bit? Should there be one?

I was reading about the new ZX Spectrum Next 8bit coming soon. Which I'm fully up for getting. It looks sexy as heck. :-) Surely there must be appetite for a new 8bit Acorn machine? I mean the Master was pretty good, may be something along those lines, but with added sprite handling and screen modes...

Make sure there are plenty of great screenshots, maybe some BBC/ELK compare shots, features on the games (Elite could be a book on its own LOL) REVs, Repton, Superior Software, Peter Johnson, the Sinclair rivals, the BBC contract, famous coders, iconic games, game maps, sprite pages, iconic Box Art?...

Awesome! Just had a quick play and the excellent graphics load really quickly which is brilliant for playability. Now get cracking on Foggy as I can't wait to play your Hobbit game later on in the year. Thanks, yeah I wanted to have a go at FOGGY as I'm using a nice little Construction set of tools...
