Re: Slow OSBGET file access

As explained in the ADUG, on DFS 1.20 a call to OSGBPB to read n bytes simply makes n calls to OSBGET and is therefore essentially pointless.

Just received the latest update. They are apparently adding a DMA controller to the design. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Seems to be a step too far from the basic nature of the original

Re: Palettemate / enhanced video ULA with 4096 colours

Just installed my. Superb piece of kit. Super easy to install and start using. I have a couple of questions. The soldering is seriously impressive. How did you do this? Did you do it by hand with a soldering iron or did you use paste (and, if so, what brand) and hot air? Did you use a stencil? Also,...

OK, don't try this at home. The Papilio One is not 5V tolerant so you could damage it. Luckily, mine seems OK.

One thing (one of the many things) I don't understand - why have you used a 23.7832 MHz clock when the original Music 5000 had a 12 MHz oscillator?

Re: BeebOPL and ARM7TDMI

Sadly, I have nothing in BASIC. It very quickly became apparent that on a vanilla 6502A, BASIC was going to be too slow.

There are quite a lot of resources here. But it is a lot to wade through.

Re: BeebOPL and ARM7TDMI

The structure of DRO files is set out here . In simple terms, it is just a question of sending the data in the file to the OPL chip at the right time. The code I wrote isn't Tube compliant. If you want to use it over the Tube, rather than writing to &FC04 and &FC05 you should be using OSBYTE...

Re: Acorn Music 5000

Mark Haysman (Retroclinic) sells a package that includes the manual, the disc and the ROM. He also sells the programmer's reference guide. You should get a 5pin DIN to 3.5mm stereo lead (such as this http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-35mm-jack-to-5-pin-din-cable-15m-a31xf) - then you can plug it in t...

I'm very glad I made the effort to attend yesterday. A great day. Great company, lot's of things to see as ever plus a great exhibition. And I solved a bug in my new MIDI player!

Well done to the two Jasons for an amazing feat of organisation.

There is free parking at the museum. However, it is a small car park and it is likely to be busy because of the event. I think last time we (ABUG folks) boxed ourselves in to the car park behind, as we didn't need to leave by 5pm like the regular visitors. Pretty sure I left my car at the museum ov...

Re: My new project (don't tell Arcardian)

The latest development: https://soundcloud.com/user-469563483/princess-leias-theme This piece really challenges the 6502 code as it keeps changing the 'tempo' during the piece which in turn requires recalculating (with long division) the interrupt rate on the fly. Needless to say, I am no longer har...

It is indeed a Midi file player in 6502 code. It is not too difficult, albeit somewhat more complicated than DRO files. The code I have written is only about 500 bytes long. The specification is here: http://cs.fit.edu/~ryan/cse4051/projects/midi/midi.html. I will share the code soon (I will be work...
