Re: Softload 3.71 over 3.70

Awesome! Thanking you.

Had to fiddle with *SHareFS under Boot:Choices to add an OS check otherwise !Boot will always load ShareFS+ 3.44 which dies on RISC OS 3.7x.

Softload 3.71 over 3.70

Don't ask why! I've been trying to softload 3.71 over 3.70 on my RISC PC. No joy at all. The softload tool that comes with 4.02 (and JASPPS multi-OS softload) loads the ROMs, then reboots and loads the ROMs again, and reboots ad infinitum. The later versions from 4.29/4.39 and 5.22 just internal err...

Re: Open source firmware for Gotek floppy emulator released

Great, got one coming tomorrow via Amazon Prime Now. Wonderful service! Seen on some Apple ][ forums - would this work for writing ADFS floppies on a PC without a floppy controller on board? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16821104104&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Ju...

Re: Open source firmware for Gotek floppy emulator released

Will a USB 3.0 A cable work the same as a USB 1/2 A cable?

I know in some circumstances USB 2 devices cannot accept USB 3 devices due to the increased voltage.

Re: RPC dead

Unplug it from the mains and wait an hour. Try again after that. Also sniff the IEC to see if it smells of burning. Try a known working kettle lead as well.

My RISC PC just died a few weeks ago. No power from the button, no sound and no fan. I left it an hour and BOOM back working again!

Re: 10base-2 crossover?

Does the 32bit module/drivers from ROOL still work on 26-bit RISC OS (3.70/4.02)?

I've been softloading 5.20 over 3.70 just for the hell of it, and the NIC obviously doesn't work.

Bloody Hell. How prices change in four years!

CJE want £160 for a second hand scuffed AKF17, there is a failing AKF11/13 on eBay for £85 and I paid £50 for my AKF53!

What happened to 3QD threatening legal action over hosting this stuff, using a big stick and the vague notion they possibly own the full rights to RISC OS, but not all of it etc.

From the mid-2000's PC shifter relaunch I got one of those snazzy Acorn branded ATA/USB2 external hard drives.

I think RISC OS Bits has a stock and is shifting them (for quite a sum)

Re: 10base-2 crossover?

I can't do the A3010 HDD mod as it's an Adelaide not an ARM250! That doesn't stop you doing the HDD modification, in fact it should be slightly easier, as the Adelaide board pins are easier to solder onto... The important ide controller IC24 (82c711) is still present, so you 'just' need to tap into...

Yep it's an EtherLAN 100. Are the ROM chips flashable? I can see one contains the AUN modules, I wonder if the others contain Access and Internet? I can't test it yet until my A3010 is back together and the IDE podule is removed! I have 4MB of RAM, and as well as softloading the networking modules f...

RemoteFS - Parallel

Has anyone here used RemoteFS with parallel ports? I was looking at the entry in Chris' Acorns as I remember my secondary school had RemoteFS over 10base-2 back in the 90s. I nicked a copy of the software and played around on my A3010 at home. Ready the section here it seems RemoteFS supports two Ar...

10base-2 crossover?

Does there exist a 10base-2 version of the 10base-T/Cat5/RJ45 crossover cable? My RISC PC NIC has both -t and -2 ports, but my A3010 network podule only has -2, that's why it only cost £15! I've tried hooking it up to an old HP hub that has -2 and -T ports on it with no success. I don't even know if...

Re: Copying large files with RISC OS 3.70

I've just stuck mine in Boot:Utils and call it in BootRun under VProtect. Works fine there. Still need to set ADFSBuffers to zero with 3.70 I've given up with PowerIDE, it's just not design to do what I want it to. I can partition two drives with the old RISC OS map, but as soon as I load ADFS 3.33 ...

Re: Copying large files with RISC OS 3.70

I've found with PowerIDE that large file copies to EADFS::4 work absolutely fine, and very fast. Copy the same data to ADFS::4 and "Disc Error 20". I'll try the patched ADFS now, as v 3.33 still errors and also messes about with EADFS. To partition a HDD on the internal RISC PC IDE interfa...

ADFS 3.33 and FileCore 3.22 that you provided with your little !Boot for multi-OS.

I ended up running PowerIDE and formatting the damn drive. It was doing my head in. So I can partition it with a small !Boot with short filenames and then the much large partition with long filenames.

Re: Copying large files with RISC OS 3.70

Hmm even softloading later ADFS and FileCore produces an error. Either Error 20, total lockup or data lost. The drive does verify OK and DiscKnight reports no problems. I am starting to wonder whether it's worth stick 4.02 back in ROM and softloading 4.39 and be done with it. Then I can reformat and...
