Re: Problem BBC Model B and Turbo MMC

No I burned the DFS 0.9 into a 27C64: The BBC makes now a short low beep and than a never ending high beeeeeeeep. The startup message now is: BBC Computer 32K Acorn DFS <flashing cursor> But no keyboard input ist possible. I think, that the DFS 1.2 ROM was bad, but with the DFS 0.9 there still seem...

Re: Problem BBC Model B and Turbo MMC

The DFS ROM will not initialise if the disc interface is not (properly) installed. You could check your installation against the instructions in the service manual (page 28).

This reminds me of the RFC 1149 standard. More useful for longer distances. I suspect bandwith should be able to scale but latency may be an issue for some applications.

Re: Think I'm loosing my (beeb) memory

The $ is represented by a hex value of &24, whereas a space is &20 (in ASCII and Teletext). From that I'd guess that your faulty chip is bit 2 (2^2=4) of CAS1 stuck on. That should be IC55, if I've read the circuit diagram correctly. Can you find any other faulty characters as you type? If ...

Re: Think I'm loosing my (beeb) memory

Yea, bit 1 specifically. So in terms of memory chips IC54 is suspect. But it can also be caused by other parts of the memory circuit (see this recent thread).

You can try the simple memory check program suggested in the same thread.

Re: Random pixels on BBC Model B

A pound sign in mode 7 is a nice smoking gun. If you see a pound sign where you should see a space character, it means you see ASCII 96 instead of ASCII 32. So bit 5 is sometimes stuck high (+64). If you get that in mode 7 with S25 north you are seeing it in the screen memory on a BBC B configurati...

I don't think that anyone has tried this in a B+, but if you can burn the OS image from my OsSelfTest thread, it would tell you if the via was driving the LEDs and slow data bus (sound) correctly (assuming my memory is correct). Yes, your test rom works in the B+ and helped me diagnose the 6522 rel...

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

So you can get a working 16K BBC by setting S25 south and by removing S25? In that case either both memory banks are working or IC45 is malfunctioning. You can verify that both banks get selected IC45 by removing one of the socketed memory chips and see if you still get the same behaviour with S25 r...

Re: Problem Beeb MotherBoard

Have you checked the OS socket connectivity? If you are changing the OS chip a few times this may become a bit fragile.

When you are saying that it takes (took?) a few ctrl-breaks to get it to boot, can it be that it is just warming up? So that waiting a while can help?
